Conversion

[edit]

The article says: "Conversion from Islam is technically difficult through social and official aspects....". Can anyone elaborate on this? It is certainly not common, but are there external obstacles preventing a person from changing his faith? --Vsion 06:34, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I tried searching the MUIS website for rules on conversion/apostasy/renouncing Islam but didn't get anything. I guess a key social issue would be coping with the sitgmatisation by the general Muslim community. -- Dodo bird 08:19, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is no evidence to suggest a widespread trend of "stigmatization" against Singaporeans who have converted to another religion from Islam. Also, the statement that "virtually all Malays strictly adhere to Islamic principles" also requires more evidence from a credible, academic source.--202.156.6.54 18:21, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Practices of Islam

[edit]

I removed a section stating things like "muslims go to mosque on Fridays" because the are true of all Muslims. There is no need to describe customs of Muslim Malays if they are essentially the same as other Muslims. Wikipedia has links for people to follow if they want to find out more about Muslim customs. Introduction

[edit]

I had removed and edited the text for the intro to this article because the tables and census reports that follow do show that the Malays are the minority in this country and that the Chinese make up about 77 % of the population. I have also correctly, I believe, highlighted that majority of the Chinese here are local born and not immigrants. Decendants of immigrants you could say but not immigrants as they were born in Singapore. We could leave the part about the influx of Chinese immigrants over the past 200 years but factually the majority of the population here are now immigrants. DEFAULTSORT in Wikipedia

[edit]

I refer to the Malay Singaporeans found in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Malay_Singaporeans Some of the names are sorted by their patronymic names while others are sorted by their given names. Should there be a standard? Anyone can advise? Thanks!
