ECC
[edit]"Elliptic Curve Cryptography which is more secure as well as faster." That's an unvarifiable statement. how can we know how hard it is to solve a problem (like finding a cuve point or factoring a number) until it's solved. RSA (used to) Hate the thought of it. but they would they invented prime factor public key cryptography. Oxinabox (talk) 12:05, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
I think that it is not true that ECC is faster than RSA. What is true is that you can have equivalent key strength with many fewer bits using ECC. RSA for equivalent strength has much longer keys but is less compute intensive. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.20.202.19 (talk) 05:29, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
It is faster for equivalent security, and the NSA cite backs that up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.44.21.30 (talk) 14:42, 5 February 2013 (UTC)
Persistent Symmetric Keys
[edit]The article claims that CNG still does not support persistent symmetric keys. That statement is not supported by the documentation. I have not written an application that does this but the documentation for the CNG API function NCryptCreatPersistedKey implies that you can create persistent keys for other key types as well. Specifically the parameter dwLegacyKeySpec allows for a none of the above keytype. This was indeed a limitation of CAPI but it seems to have been fixed. --Hkc94501 (talk) 05:46, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
It certainly wasn't fixed when CNG was introduced, and if it has been fixed since it's very recent and very quietly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.108.130.2 (talk) 13:05, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb204778(v=vs.85).aspx implies the default Microsoft software KSP only supports asymmetric and HMAC keys. The primitive (session) BCryptEncrypt function allows specification of an IV, and a block cipher padding mode. NCryptEncrypt doesn't support an IV or block cipher padding, only RSA padding. The cipher block chaining mode BCRYPT_CHAINING_MODE is a BCrypt property. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.44.21.30 (talk) 14:35, 5 February 2013 (UTC)
Requested move to Microsoft CryptoAPI
[edit]- The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: page moved. The MOS may favor Microsoft Cyptographic API, or Microsoft Cyptography API. I would consider moving to either of those to be non controversial so that any established user can do it. Nomination here again would be if it was unclear which of those two is more correct. Cryptographic API → Microsoft CryptoAPI — The current name of the article Cryptographic API denotes a general cryptographic API not the particular API from Microsoft. To avoid confusion the title of the article should be precised (WP:PRECISION). Microsoft itself names the API as Microsoft CryptoAPI[1], Microsoft Cyptographic API[2] and Microsoft Cyptography API[3] Of course the word Microsoft is often omitted but it should not be the case of this article. pabouk (talk) 23:35, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
- Support this is a generic title, with lots of applicable topics. 70.29.212.131 (talk) 05:15, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
- Support the topic is not general purpose cryptogaphic API, but Microsoft-oriented. --km5 (talk) 09:06, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
