Mislabelled Image[edit]

The image labelled as being at the intersection of Hwy. 62 and Main Street is apparently mislabelled. Per Google Maps, the two streets do not cross. Looking at Google Maps street view, it appears to be the intersection of Main and Winter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.181.29.110 (talk) 20:31, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As I look at the map, Winter St and hwy. 62 are the same. Nicmart (talk) 00:37, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Midway ≠ Leesburg[edit]

I understand these maps (commented out here) can be misread as saying Midway is Leesburg, but as Rennick (linked in the article) points out Leesburg was the nearby settlement of Nugent's Crossroads and not Midway. — LlywelynII 06:40, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Distillery[edit]

Someone inserted "why" after the sentence stating that the distillery operated during Prohibition. It was legal for licensed distilleries to operate during Prohibition, that's why, but such a fact doesn't belong in this article. Nicmart (talk) 02:17, 18 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

findagrave[edit]

Wikipedia guidelines do not preclude using findagrave as a reference in all cases. It is specified that "Care should be taken when deciding to make a link to the Find a Grave website. While photographs of gravestones provide useful information, the biographical and other additional details may not be reliable. If there are fully reliable sources which may be used, then the Find a Grave link should not be used, or should be removed in place of the more reliable source.” The findagrave info for Joseph Bryan Martin is accurate and contains no extraneous commentary or opinion. See Wikipedia:External_links/Perennial_websites#Find-a-Grave. Really the bit of trivia about Martin doesn't need including here at all, whatever the source. Nikkimaria (talk) 02:47, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The history of Man o’ War is important to many people, and especially to people in the heart of horse racing country where Midway sits. The prominence of Man o’ War in thoroughbred and Kentucky histories is significant. What may be trivial in Los Angeles may not be trivial in Midway, Kentucky, The Midway page includes the earliest existing photo of Man o’ War, being held by Martin. A distillery robbery/murder a century ago would not likely be included in an article about a large city, but does that make it trivial in Midway? Is the success of a Black jockey more than a century ago trivial? I reckon that you aren’t in a position to decide what might interest the people of Midway. I have been to Midway many times, and talked to people about the Man o’ War connection, and I can attest that it is not trivial to many of them. Why do are you here colonizing the Midway entry and misstating Wikipedia guidelines? Why is Midway important to you? Nicmart (talk) 01:33, 12 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This isn't the Midway Encyclopedia, though - we're writing not just for readers in Midway, but also those in Los Angeles, and London, and Lilongwe. Nikkimaria (talk) 02:58, 12 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
So, you contend that an entry about Midway should contain items that don’t reflect the values and interests of Midwayans, but those of people in Los Angeles and London. Why is it not more likely that people not in Midway would want to know what is relevant to people in Midway? Again, why do you colonize the sites pertaining to places you are not from or in, and attempt to impose your interests and values? We are not going with the fiction that your views are value-free. What city do you inhabit? Let’s make sure that its entry contains information considered interesting to the people of Midway. There is not a small city in the world whose entry you couldn’t mess with on the pretext that you know best what people want to read. Nicmart (talk) 00:34, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to create a site all about what's interesting to the people of Midway, you are of course free to do that. But we can't make every geographic article on this particular site about what's interesting to the people of that particular place - whether that place is a small town or an entire country - because this is a global encyclopedia with a global readership.
