Data communications
[edit]The data part of the GSM protocol is called GPRS. Many...
This part is not entirely correct. GSM data orginally was CSD and currently there are several data transfer modes, although GPRS is the most popular. -Yyy 13:42, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
Too much Nokia
[edit]This mentions Nokia phones far too many times. I will try to clean this up. - hmwithtalk 18:59, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
Including the claim that Nokia 9000 was the first SmartPhone. I bleieve the IBM Simon (1994) was the first phone to combine cellphone & PDA in one device and should have the designation as the first SmartPhone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.128.236.243 (talk) 20:54, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
New Features is only about Viruses
[edit]The New Features section talks only about viruses, and then only ones that affect Symbian OS phones. It was phrased in such a way to apply to all cell phones. The whole section is very alarmist and need to be rewritten. --24.249.108.133 16:45, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Low-end phones and feature phones
[edit]The article says:
Low-end mobile phones are often referred to as feature phones, and offer basic telephony. Handsets with more advanced computing ability ... became known as smartphones.
However the Feature phone article start with:
A feature phone is a mobile phone that, like smartphones, combines the functions of a personal digital assistant (PDA) and a mobile phone.
The statement that low-end phones are referred to as feature phones and offer basic telephony is not consistent with the linked description of a feature phone as like smartphones, has extra features. "Basic telephony" here implies - to me at least - only basic telephony, which is what one would expect in a low-end phone. I think some rewording is required. Mitch Ames (talk) 01:44, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
- I agree it is confusing. What we should do through is get the feature phone article clear and then when there is an agreed definition, copy it over here. I'll do a bit of work on that page. ChrisUK (talk) 11:31, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
Auto-focus or fixed-focus?
[edit]Under Miscellaneous features the article says "Other features ... include ... autofocus ...", however I have my doubts as to whether any mobile phone has autofocus. I suspect that only have a fixed-focus lens. Can anyone produce a citation for a phone with autofocus? Mitch Ames (talk) 02:09, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
New Features Desired by Consumers
[edit]Is it worthwhile to have a section describing features that consumers may want that are not currently available? A strong factor in providing such a section is that such a list of features would become part of the "public domain" and therefore not be patentable (at least, as I understand it, not in the US), which would keep prices low for everyone. For example, I would love a feature where one could configure a particular number to, upon receiving a call from it, override certain settings at the receiving end. This would help in the situation where one person has an urgent need to contact another person, but due to phone being in "silence/vibrate" mode, the call is getting ignored as the receiver is unaware of the call (think of the receiving phone being in a purse). Perhaps said feature would only be triggered if two calls were received within a certain (even configurable?) time window Dan Aquinas (talk) 23:31, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
