Chinaman's Hat redirect
[edit]Just to note that this obsolete/now-changed name is not the only Chinaman's Hat in the United States (see [http:/www.topozone.com] and search "Chinaman's Hat"), although others may not deserve articles; a listing of such locations may be made on the Chinaman disambiguation page (which may become Chinaman (disambiguation), see Talk:Chinaman (racial term) for a temporarily-sidelined discussion about that. There may have been Chinaman's Hat placenames in Canada (I'll check somehow, since they're not listed in the Nat'l Geonames Database); if there were they are probably "China Hat" now, and AFAIK are not notable enough to warrant an article..Skookum1 21:20, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Speaking as someone who lived in Kaneohe, that small island has been called "Chinaman's Hat" for ages, and there has only been a recent push to call it "Mokolii" since some unknown persons decided that "Chinaman" was not P.C. It's true, that it is somewhat of a derogatory term (if you want to go so far as to call it "derogatory,") but that island is "popularly known as" Chinaman's Hat. I doubt people will stop calling it that for many years to come. Mokolii is a curiosity for both tourists and locals alike. It's just easier to call it Chinaman's Hat because it is easier to identify it that way. xoxoui 20:03, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- I was about to de-watchlist this but upon looking at it, note that all mention of "Chinaman's Hat" has been deleted, presumably for p.c.-censorship reasons. It's still linked on Chinaman and should remain so......I'm not in the mood to look over the history or find the old citations for that; censorship has no place in Wikipedia.Skookum1 (talk) 07:16, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
- I made a good faith edit to be certain that "chinaman" is being clearly explained as a racist term. Just because the name is still in common usage does not make it right anymore than calling a Brazil nut a "nigger toe" would still not be racist despite the so called "common usage". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.150.249.19 (talk) 00:18, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
Incomplete sentence ?
[edit]The lead ends: :"previously there were a few" Is there something that needs to be added? clariosophic (talk) 11:58, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
" Dangerous during any other time " what does that mean?? any other time except dawn to dusk? Also, I would add a hyperlink to stonefish. It's not obvious why the presence of stonefish is important for folks walking around the reef. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.155.209.153 (talk) 16:51, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
