Did this actually happen?

[edit]

According to some sources, including Encyclopedia Astronautica and Gunter's Space Page, the launch on 4 June 1964 was a Molniya communications satellite. In fact, I can find very little reference to a Zond mission on that date outside of Wikipedia and its mirrors. The only one I could find is the one that this article references, which is entitled "Tentatively Identified Missions and Launch Failures" - I think that title speaks for itself in terms of the reliability of the source. Is there any other evidence to support this being a Zond mission, not a Molniya? --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 16:55, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's correct, according to Boris Chertok's notes, this was the launch of a Molniya-1 satellite, not a Zond probe. DonPMitchell (talk) 22:58, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
