Outboard Engine misidentification

[edit]

I'm a newb and don't want to risk screwing anything with an edit, yet, so I'll just comment for now. The "1958 18 horsepower Johnson engine" on the Penn Yan 14 foot is pretty clearly not the stated engine. It is a 25 horsepower Johnson outboard, 1972 model year. 2ef2 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.106.114.119 (talk) 00:32, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sexual meaning

[edit]

No mention of the sexual "Motorboat" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.238.141.113 (talk) 09:46, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This article is about the water vessel. Not the sexual term. hawkfrost18 (talk) 22:44, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Should have disambig page then, seeing as there is a Motorboat (this article), Motorboating (with RF choppiness) and the sexual meaning Dtheweather9 (talk) 12:03, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Speed boat and water skiier.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on May 1, 2015. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2015-05-01. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. Thanks! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:01, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Motorboat
A motorboat pulling a water skier in Victoria, Australia. For such activities, boats often have a high power-to-weight ratio and a hull design which allows for easy planing.Photograph: Fir0002

The first motorboat not powered by a steam engine was concieved by Étienne Lenoir in 1861, not by Daimler and Maybach. Lenoir used his own gas engine, while Daimler and Maybach were first in using an internal combustion engine in 1886.--Chief tin cloud (talk) 22:27, 1 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Racing

[edit]

This section is badly in need of attention from someone who knows a bit about the subject, but even an ignoramus like me knows that offshore -i.e. on salt water – power boat racing is A Thing and that current F2 racing boats use a 2.5 litre (~150 cu. in.) outboard. Motorsport

[edit]

Hello, Powerboating redirects here, I wonder if you consider and call your sport motorsport, it is not mentioned or wikilinked here. Rally Wonk (talk) 19:17, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
