Photo[edit]

The current photo is almost totally useless. Hardly any of the chair itself is visible at all. The person sitting in the chair obscures everything. Roger (talk) 07:45, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also it's just a weird picture, she looks angry or something. There must be a more positive picture of someone in a motorized chair!Gorramdoll (talk) 14:06, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've completely reworked the article as I noticed large chunks of the existing text had been lifted from the Mobility Scooter article and were barely applicable to powerchairs, even still talking about 'scooters' in places. I also switched the article to using 'powerchair' rather than 'EPW' as it's not a term I've ever seen anyone using outside of this article and we should endeavour to keep the text in articles as accessible as possible. 'Powerchair' is reasonably concise, in common use and should be understandable to just about everyone. I've reworked and expanded the design section to the best of my ability, but I'm an occasional manual chair user rather than a powerchair user and it needs to be checked over by someone who is an actual powerchair user.

I think the discussion of prescription practise in Use could usefully incorporate a wider multinational perspective. UK policy seems to match with US in being less than ideal and I've added that, but that's only two countries out of a couple of hundred.

I switched out the existing picture for the shot of Dean Kamen and the iBot from the iBot article, it's not ideal, and I think it should be replaced by a shot of a more typical powerchair at the first opportunity if someone has access to a copyright free one (I don't), but in addition to all of the problems noted above with the existing picture I'm not even sure the sex in the file name was right. I'm fairly certain that is a guy in the chair and not a woman.

I also have some issues with the article being categorized as 'medical' rather than 'disability' related, that's very Medical Model and that's not a model of disability that many members of the disability community (myself included) are comfortable with. However both switching it AND leaving it as is would seem to violate NPOV, so I'll leave that for those more familiar with wikipedia policy to consider. Term[edit]

The term really should be "power wheelchair" as used by manufacturers. "Motorized wheelchair" is outdated. Cite error: The <ref> tag has too many names (see the help page). Wikipedia uses the most common term for something., not what it's manufacturers use. we don't move pages by cut and paste, either. Graham87 04:14, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have not heard that name used in decades. Oops about the copy and paste move. Either way it's not cited PieAreSquared — Preceding undated comment added 21:02, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't notice before but there is an inconsistency in Wheelchair, they are called "Powered Wheelchairs" PieAreSquared (talk) 02:44, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sports[edit]

Should a section for sports for power wheelchair users be listed under use? Could link to Powerchair Football, Power hockey and Boccia PieAreSquared (talk) 21:25, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but not boccia, because the type of chair is irrelevant, players are stationary throughout play. It is often played by powerchair users but it's not a requirement of the sport. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 21:38, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
