Requested move

  • Comment - I don't have any problem with moving Naruto to Naruto (disambiguation), but it simply feels wrong to me for Naruto to be the article about the manga. I'd think no matter what their relative popularities, an article about a real city should have a stronger claim on a name in an encyclopedia than anything fictional (meaning I'd expect Naruto to be a redirect to the city) but I can't find any wikipedia policy to support this. Abstain for now. -- Rick Block 02:11, 5 May 2005 (UTC)

Discussion

A Naruto (disambiguation) page can look like:
69.214.226.102 01:37, 5 May 2005 (UTC)

About the movie

I added a small snippet briefly describing the movie at the end of the main synopsis, I hope to add more detailed information later on tomorrow (13 September). --ambience 00:19, 13 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Naruto Characters

The info was mostly correct... The only part of it not integrated into this new version of the page was the part about the characters:

'Uchiha Sasuke is the last of the Uchiha clan and is very powerful. He is blessed by a special gift and an advanced bloodline. Also is Sakura, a smart girl, who although doesn't have much chakra (ninja energy) like Naruto and Sasuke, can control hers very well and learn new jutsus very quickly. Other memorable characters include their teacher, who is considered to be one of the best ninjas in the village. Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura are the only three students to ever pass his first test, making them very special.'

This, naturally, should be integrated in Naruto characters. -- AceMyth, 19 November 2003

List of Jutsus

Right, all that's missing now is the Jutsu list. I'll get to that tomorrow (The 26th). -- AceMyth 07:19, 25 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Jutsus done. -- AceMyth 10:15, 27 Nov 2003 (UTC)

List of characters split

I had split the list of characters into two, because I got a message from Wiki telling me that the list had exceeded '61KB' and some users might have trouble reading it. Revth 06:08, 4 Mar 2004 (UTC)

- Srry i dunno how to log-in and post. Anyhow just wanna ask if Naruto's Harem no jutsu has effect on H. Kakashi>? TQ. ^-^

Openings and Ending

I just added the Openings & Endings section. I wasn't sure how to read the katakana ”ザ・マスミサイル” (the name of the group that did the 5th ending). If anyone has a better interpretation than "The Mass Missile", by all means correct it. Grenadier 16:13, 18 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Major rewrite needed

This page needs a major rewrite. As it stands it is nothing more than a synopsis. Exploding Boy 07:57, Jul 5, 2004 (UTC)

Manga License

It should be noted somewhere that Naruto manga (up to a certain chapter) is licensed by Shonen Jump Comics and is being released in Shonen Jump. -- AllyUnion (talk) 05:12, 30 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Naruto Biology

Does someone has the strength to write an exaustive article about Naruto biology? ;-)

and by that you mean what exactly?

Online Translation

It should also be noted or mentioned about the people who translated the manga online (i.e. Inane), making it even more popular. -- AllyUnion (talk) 23:49, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Evil Eye

So, I guess we're stuck with "the evil eye", huh?

Oh well, I guess the blame isn't really on WhispertoMe's translation campaign but more on Viz deciding that "Kekkei Genkai" can stay untranslated but "Byakugan" has to become "Evil Eye". ...the ridiculous conflict with, say, Hinata's character sets a precedent for Itachi's "art of the I wuv woo, woo wuv me". --AceMyth 02:58, Feb 14, 2005 (UTC)

Narutards

. Another reason why Naruto is often compared to Dragon Ball Z is Narutos large fanbase/fanboys who often are unexperienced in using IRC (which is used to distribute fansubs) and thus are annoying to the normal users and chanops. These people who also often overhype Naruto are often called Narutards.

Is this sentence really necessary? -- AllyUnion (talk) 03:23, 18 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I've heard "Narutard" in many places on the net to refer to Naruto fans. WhisperToMe 20:26, 18 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Certainly this is true, but I don't think it deserves its own article. And it is kind of offensive. -- AllyUnion (talk) 12:10, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)
I have also heard of the terms Hinatards (reference to major fans of Hyuga Hinata) and Sasuketards (reference to major fans of Uchiha Sasuke). Though this seems irrelevant. --SwordKirby537 19:36, 4 September 2005 (UTC)
It's become sort of like the term "fanboy", people just take whatever somebody else seems to be supporting and they don't like, slap "tard" at the end, and voila. Now this somebody else can be seen as an instance of a retarded subset of the fandom (never mind that one has to be retarded to have used such a crude, tasteless term to begin with). --AceMyth 22:19, September 4, 2005 (UTC)
Except that Narutard has about 13900 search results on google whereas Hinatard has about 500 and Sasuketard about 3.
Funny how typing 'Narutard' into Wikipedia Search will take you to this article. --Antoshi 21:41, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

Book cover

Does anyone have a cover for the English Naruto Vol. 1? WhisperToMe 20:26, 18 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Added the katakana.

Most of the other anime/mangas have the Japanese next to their titles so I thought I should include it and there it is. DragonKore 17:11, 05 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Naruto profile box

I've made a naruto profile box, check the template here, and use Uchiha Sasuke's profile as a template for how it's used. I think it'll be cleaner using this on all the profiles for the characters in the series. Havok 14:18, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Heights are shown to the nearest mm and weights to the nearest 0.1 kg. Is that how things are done in Japan? I would have thought heights would be to the nearest cm and weights to the nearest kg. Bobblewik  (talk) 09:02, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)
This is how the information about the characters are shown in the official Naruto handbook. Havok 11:21, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Character Profiles

Anyone want to help move the characters of great importance to the series to their own page. I just feel the character article is a bit... well, big. If anyone wants to help me do this, we could start with the characters who have their own page allready. Using the Naruto profile template would also be a good edition. The profile for either Naruto or Sasuke will show you have it will look. Havok 22:10, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I'd love to help Havoc. By the way, is it really necessary to have all those characters on the 'Naruto (manga)' page? Most of them are rather insignificant

True true, I think we should just split the Naruto article into (manga) and (anime). And create an own article for the episode list. Havok 22:02, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Episode List

Is this section really necessary? I think it's better suited for it's own article, as adding a list of all the characters already makes the main entry quite lengthy. NeoChaosX 20:48, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I have a better idea. How about we make to sections? One for Naruto the manga and one for the anime? Basically split it up. There are things in the anime that does not show up and vise versa. Thoughts on this. Havok 22:00, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
A split sounds good, if it won't be too confusing.
P.S. About the character list. I asked this before, but is it really necessary to have so many characters in this entry? Many of them are rather unimportant.--JadziaLover 22:03, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I think that's a good idea. We could keep the most known characters from each village and then have a link stating "For more characters from this village push here" or something. Havok 22:13, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Regarding Anime/Manga Split and Character List

I don't think it's a good idea to split the page into a manga page and anime page, because frankly they are identical for all intents and purposes except filler and the fact that the anime is animated in color, has music in it and is produced by a studio rather than a single artist. Having two articles will result in either a lot of duplicate material or one of the articles being rather uninformative. Also this implies not exploring the differences between the anime and the manga (because if we do we end up with two exactly identical pages), which is losing potentially useful information.

As for the characters, I've remade the character list. The eventual goal I'm aiming at is, for major characters:

Group this-or-other

With each major character having their own article. And for minor characters

Group this-or-other

Minor Character 1 | Minor Character 2 | Minor Character 3 | Minor Character 4 | Minor Character 5

With all of them on Minor Naruto characters and the links pointing at the respective header.

Once this is accomplished, I intend to turn "Naruto characters" into "List of Naruto characters" with no pics or additional info, move all minor character info into "Minor Naruto characters" and merge all major character info with the appropriate major character articles. --AceMyth July 6, 2005 04:39 (UTC)

Why Dragonball vs Naruto?

This is so random. Is there really a feud between DB and Naruto fans over whose is better? I don't get it. There not even the same plus it dosen't take a genius to figure out which one is more popular.

While this is the first I ever heard of a feud between Dragon Ball and Naurto fans, I have heard of it being compared to Dragon ball due to Naruto's immense popularity, the length of the series, and the average I.Q among the fanboy/girlss. Since Dragon Ball also very large and popular like Naruto is now, a new anime/manga comes along and gains a lot of popularity among non or former Dragon Ball fans, a feud between the fans arguing over which is better is very believable. If there are two immensley popular fads, people will squabble between which one is better. In fact, since Naruto has become as popular as Dragon Ball was a few years ago, there are some non-fans saying that all the hype it is getting will turn it into the next Dragon Ball Z, especially with how the series has been going downhill for quite some time now, and how the pace of the anime has slowed that down to that of Dragon Ball Z proportions, so many people who wish to enjoy Naruto may just turn to the Manga, especially if they somehow find a way to make Sakura more irritating.
I don't think there's a feud regarding which is "better", Naruto or DBZ (DBZ is too much past its prime for its fans to argue in its favour as a contemporary pleasure, and doesn't quite make for the perfect 'classic oldbie quality trumps contemporary garbage for the teeming masses' case, either). Actually, it's more along the lines of Naruto being compared to DBZ by its detractors with DBZ representing the embodiment of a very unique brand of suckage. You could say the series is going downhill... We haven't had a REALLY powerful moment since the chuunin exam arc ended (ie Orochimaru's arms pwned) and nothing remotely resembling robust character development ever since Naruto II begun (Hi I'm Naruto I have a new jacket now and stuff oh hi Sakura hi Shikamaru WTF everybody went Chunin oh whoa gotta go chase Akatsuki boom bang got them no wait I didn't wtf here we go again). I HATE the chase/fight plot formation with the passion of a thousand burning suns. Really. I'm starting to think Kishimoto has forgotten how to draw his characters when they're not running somewhere or hurt and about to mindlessly spam their most powerful technique. The last time a character actually thought ahead was back at Shikamaru vs. Temari. What the hell.
Okay I'm done. --AceMyth 23:38, July 26, 2005 (UTC)
P.S. I believe it has been mathematically proven that the function of Sakura's anime annoyingness is currently at its apex and may not rise further without bending the laws of physics.

Phew, I was woried for a bit that she'll get even more irritating in the English dub with the adding of a very bad voice actor. (If anyone's going to have bad voice acting aside from Naruto, it's her.)

Actually, Sakura has ceased to be annoying and is now starting to approach some level of cool. Volunteering as a human puppet to battle Sasori has that effect on you. At least she's not being a crybaby anymore. --Tjstrf 02:35, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
That's why I said anime annoyingness. --AceMyth 03:36, July 29, 2005 (UTC)

If DBZ is going to be compared to anything, it should be One Piece. OP characters have their jaws hang open in amazement/horror/anger like three-quarters of the episode. It's just like DBZ's gasp-he's-so-powerful, gasp-oh-no-we're-doom, gasp-gotta-fill-time-to-make-the-episode-30-mins. 205.174.22.28 01:25, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

"You can't go around The Simpsons, you have to go through them." I have to admit that the last Naruto VS Sasuke anima fight mirrored DBZ strongly and that the characters are getting to a inhuman level in power, but that’s what made DBZ good. They’re not remaking the characters, just allowing similar laws of physics in another anima. If were looking for saged (an insultive reuse of) characters, lets try Bakuretsu Tenshi. Links

Is it really necessary to have so many external links? I can understand the English and Japanese links, but do we need French and Spanish links as well? --JadziaLover 09:17, 26 July 2005 (UTC)

Sure we do, they're on this planet too. No discrimination please. And we want this to be the ultimate first-place-to-look Naruto page, don't we? --Lionelster 03:49, 18 August 2005 (UTC)

That may be so, but this is the English language Wikipedia, right? Shouldn't Swedish links be on the Swedish language Wikipedia's Naruto entry? And Portuguese links on the Portuguese Wikipedia? And so forth and so on.
This page is already large, and it's only getting larger...--JadziaLover 11:47, 18 August 2005 (UTC)

You have a point. (but i don't mind either way) --Lionelster 09:39, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

Absolutely right, and I've removed all these links, as I suspect they are there for little purpose other than to generate traffic for these sites. I am also getting VERY tired of seeing RP ads in here. There's like a gazillion of them and they're all sure that no matter where you go, be it an LJ community, a wikipedia page, a forum or wherever, it's because you want to browse RP ads. --AceMyth 13:38, September 4, 2005 (UTC)

They're called fansites, which is exactly what the section was for. To remove the links because you personally dont like them is wrong, and you should quit it. --Alt 23:00, September 8, 2005 (UTC)

There are thousands of fansites out there! Should all of them be listed here? Wikipedia is not a link repository. If a site isn't extremely important or useful in a way, then it shouldn't be on this page.--JadziaLover 01:04, 9 September 2005 (UTC)
I agree with JadziaLover's idea. External links in Wikipedia are used to get additional information. So if fansties of Naruto are not giving useful information, then it should not be included here. --PinoiBIGscientian 11:38, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

Although fan websites are informative, we should not keep a large list of them at the bottom... We are not linking website service. --AllyUnion (talk) 05:07, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

I think they are useful, because they offer much more information and content than Wikipedia can possibly provide. Also, the list is pretty much settled now... I highly doubt that there's going to beany new sites that offer different and notable content beyond the sites already linked to. Thirdly, I believe the fan websites are an essential part of the Naruto world. Anyone who is interested in Naruto would definately want to know about good Naruto resources, instead of trying to wade through a bunch of crummy fansites themselves. --Mdd4696 14:55, 6 October 2005 (UTC)

I added a link to a webpage with many, many Naruto-related name, jutsu, and location translations (by JadziaLover actually). Despite lacking a bit of... shall we say visual appeal, I feel that this link deserves to be in the Fan Website section because it contains a great deal of interesting information, not available on other sites. It's information that would be a great addition to Wikipedia, but JadziaLover would have to give permission. --mdd4696 00:21, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

Could someone put the site with the deleted scenes bacK? I though that that was a very important site to compare the changes between the Japanese and English versions. Dragonmaster 00:21, 16 November 2005

I agree with you. I will put that link back up. --mdd4696 20:21, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

The characters page has been moved, so make sure you link to the right place. Cheers. — Ambush Commander(Talk) 17:02, August 15, 2005 (UTC)

Retards of the world, Unite!.

Please stop editting the page with useless or otherwise flamatory information. The previous iteration - before I replaced it with the last known legitimate information - was a naruto yaoi lemon. This is becoming rediculous and tedious.

Fix'd.

I would also like to ask that people do not remove the section on fan reaction of the dub without a propper explanation. (Conan-san 06:49, 22 September 2005 (UTC))

When will the anime stop running filler?

Does anyone know when the anime will start catching up with the manga - i.e. by leaping forward into the future by three years - and stop running what is essentially filler? Any clue how many episodes might be left before this happens? Thanks. --Brasswatchman 16:56, 22 September 2005 (UTC)

You never know... the anime might be running a three year filler... --AllyUnion (talk) 05:43, 26 September 2005 (UTC)
March 2006. Kakashi Gaiden may run then, then the NARUTO II arc the following season. --Matharvest 01:57, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

w8...havent read manga in a while but wouldnt the 3 year skip come before gaiden.....or is that after...lol i dont feel like looking it up --ACDCKakashi

English Cast List

Should this list really be here? Isn't it more logical to put this in the character articles?--JadziaLover 12:07, 24 September 2005 (UTC)

Especially now that it's beginning to grow, I think that the voice actors should be limited to those characters with individual pages, and listed only on those pages. (You don't see a list of Japanese seiyu anywhere...) --Pentasyllabic 17:36, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

Philippine Broadcast

I've added as section about ABS-CBN's broadcast of Naruto. I didn't have an account before in Wikipedia, an I've made that section before. Just today I found out it was deleted!!! I hope no one deletes the section again, and instead add information to it (for those who watch Naruto in the Philippines). Thanks!!! --PinoiBIGscientian 12:24, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

I removed that section, because I don't think it should be on this page.--JadziaLover 12:41, 26 September 2005 (UTC)
Then help me! Where should I put it??? Other anime recognised the broadcasting of the Philippines of that anime. I need help! --PinoiBIGscientian 12:50, 26 September 2005 (UTC)
How about in the Philippine/Tagalog Wikipedia?--JadziaLover 13:12, 26 September 2005 (UTC)
Ahh you mean the article in Tagalog Wikipedia on Naruto? Well, I was also the one who made that article. I didn't have anaccount on Wikipedia when I made that. Oh yeah, for Naruto fans in the Philippines, go to Tagalog Wikipedia and search "Naruto". Then help me provide it with much information. --PinoiBIGscientian 13:24, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

Toonami and YTV Broadcast section

I can see the list of unusual nonedits easily growing out-of-hand. What should be the rules for adding edits to this brief list? Perhaps someone should put in a comment, as was done with the Fan site section? --mdd4696 15:16, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

The list is absolutely silly; I've replaced it with a summary of the sorts of things they didn't edit.
Speaking of this section, can someone please source half of these criticisms? "Some people didn't like (such and such voice actor)" is practically a tautology; no voice cast is going to please everyone. - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 02:09, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

Chakra

The Chakra article linked is significantly distinct from Chakra in the show. I don't know enough about it in the show to write a show-specific Chakra article. Hackwrench 02:29, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

External Links

Wikipedia is not a link repository. There is no need for links to the japanese site, this Wikipedia is English. If anyone wants to link to the japanese sites, they should use the Japanese Wikipedia. Also, please do not add anymore sites, all the sites have the exact same information and as stated above, Wikipedia is not a link repository. Havok (T/C) 17:19, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

  • Another note: stop adding NarutoFan. The site distributes fansubs for a profit (donations in exchange for access). Selling fansubs is a blatantly illegal activity. As such, links to that page should not be present in the article. Xuanwu 06:10, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
    • I see no mention of legality on WP:EL, and NarutoFan is not necessarily illegal. It depends on your jurisidiction. Some countries do not have as strict copyright laws as the U.S. or Japan. Allofmp3 could be considered illegal, and it has its own article! Secondly, most of the other fansites linked to redistribute the manga, free for download. This is just as illegal as anything NarutoFan is doing. In any case, WP:EL states that there should not be a ton of links to fansites, and the External Links section has been an enormous amount of trouble (high maintenance). I will convert that section into a paragraph about Fansites, unless someone objects or beats me to it. I think Fansites warrant a mention in the article, because they are what made Naruto popular in the U.S. before it was licensed. ~MDD4696 (talkcontribs) 22:05, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
      • I agree with having fansites. However, NarutoFan is different from a normal fansite that merely distributes scans or fansubs. Unlike those who give them out for free, NarutoFan's founder makes money from this, without crediting either the original copyright holder or the fansubber whose work he distributes. Profiting from fansubs is considered one of the biggest taboos in the anime community, which prides itself on being primarily motivated by love of anime, not money (they leave that to the companies). For this reason, I single out that site. I think the other sites are fine; just please consider not adding this one back in due to its especially unethical behavior. It reflects badly on the anime community as a whole and we don't need to give it more advertising than it already receives. Xuanwu 22:17, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
        • We are not advertising the fansites. We are including them for notability alone, and whether it is legal or not, NarutoFan is notable. However, I will keep this in mind when I write the Fansite section. ~MDD4696 (talkcontribs) 01:53, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
          • I've rewritten a few sections of the article, and replaced the Fansites section with a mention in the "Growth and Popularity" section. The rewrites covered general wording and phrasing, as well as making the paragraphs more concise and relevant. I removed some unverifiable information. Also, there is now a "Miscellaneous" links category, which has a link to Google's Naruto directory and another site that has a list of Naruto Fansites. ~MDD4696 (talkcontribs) 05:09, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

InukoProject

I removed the InukoProject link from the external links, once again. That site is non-notable, and the only difference from other sites already listed is that is has a small cosplay section. Unless someone can justify its being there, I will keep removing it. ~MDD4696 (talkcontribs) 00:06, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
