Amarylis
[edit]What happened to all the details I put in about Amarylis? No one can convince me that Amarylis, the forerunner of all modern catamarans, wasn't significant. Slamlander (talk) 16:14, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
External links modified
[edit]Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on Nathanael Greene Herreshoff. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}}
after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}}
to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:
- Attempted to fix sourcing for http://www.ulstc.org/Herreshoff.html
When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true or failed to let others know (documentation at {{Sourcecheck}}

Summary of technical achievements
[edit]Should read "Summary of technical achievements, according to his son". Rather, deleted or suitably verified. As it is, it just says "his son said that ...", and wobbly at best. Tracks and slides have been used before he was even born (Oncahye, 1840), and as to the rest, how about some independent verification?. The bit about Amaryllis, however, is correct to my knowledge. Still a better source would be nice. Regards, --G-41614 (talk) 10:36, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing this out, G-41614. That section was already tagged. I looked for alternate sources, but couldn't find any. So, I searched for each claim in the work cited and removed anything that wasn't in the book. The list is much shorter, now. The list is introduced with, "According to his son's biography, Herreshoff's achievements include:" Hopefully, that gives fair warning about the objectivity of the claims made. - Wow, that was fast?!? Thank you, HopsonRoad. Since I don't have access to said biography, I couldn't verify those claims myself. Speaking of sources, the bit about the tracks and slides is based on H. I. Chapelle, The History of American Sailing Ships. Regards, --G-41614 (talk) 05:53, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, G-41614. You should be able to click on the blue link in the References section to see most of the Herreshoff biography. I wasn't able to find a Google book for Chapelle, so I can't find material there. Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 13:19, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you, HopsonRoad, but for some reason, google.books for whatever reasons only ever tells me that I have exceeded the amount of pages I'm allowed to see. So I'll simply trust your work. As to the Chapelle, I'm afraid I can't return the favour as I own a hard copy, but no scanner. He does not, however, offer much one could add to the article. - Und viele Grüße und Vergnügen aus Norwich, Vermont im Antwort! HopsonRoad (talk) 13:38, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
