Personal experience

[edit]

In 1977 I was an agent for The National Life and Accident Insurance Company of Nashville, Tennessee. A.L. Williams pyramid scheme cost me dozens of clients who were sold a bill of goods by their friends and family. They lost faith in me and my company because “buy term and invest the difference” had great appeal. Policy holders, many of whom had substantial cash values in permanent contracts, whole life and others, lost the additional protections and privileges written into those products. A.L. Williams was a Ponzi flavored pyramid scheme at the beginning. But it has prospered through many name changes, acquisitions and lawsuits by the score.

Today it is Primerica. It is huge with many legitimized sub-holdings. That doesn’t change the fact that it has gained prosperity from illegal or questionable beginnings at the cost of the security of gullible people seeking easy riches which never develop.
