Merger proposal
[edit]I am proposing this merger because both article state the Wings and Black Wolves are the same franchise. Every article I have read says the Black Wolves and Wings are the same franchise. And if you go to the Wings old website it links to the Black Wolves website. (Bes2224 (talk) 02:56, 4 October 2014 (UTC))
- Oppose: This team played continuously in Philadelphia under this name for 28 years. While the "franchise" is moving, the name and its associated identity will not be following to its new location but will instead be operating as if it were a completely new club. The Wings (for which I was their official scorer from 1986 to 2005) have a sufficient identity that they should remain as the subject of a stand alone article. A "franchise" is merely a "license" to operate a team in a league but is not viewed by the public as the "team" itself. Centpacrr (talk) 02:42, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose: This team is the most famous in all in the National Lacrosse League. While the current ownership has relocated to CT, the NLL announced the records and name will stay in Philadelphia. Furthermore, the league has already tweeted that several organizations are negotiating to revive the Wings for the 2015 season. Philadelphia will not be long without the Wings, and as Centpacrr mentioned, the team name itself has an identity that resonates with NLL fans across the world. This page should stay as is. - Oppose: I agree with both Centpacrr and RickGrimes77. A Wikipedia user might just get confused if, in looking for information on the Wings, they found only a redirect to what is effectively a new New England team (certainly from a fan's perspective). Q·L·1968 ☿ 21:13, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose: In the NLL, franchises and teams move around all the time. There are separate pages for each team, regardless of whether they are the same franchise or not. Examples: the Albany Attack, San Jose Stealth, Washington Stealth, and Vancouver Stealth are all the same franchise. --MrBoo (talk, contribs) 04:31, 29 December 2014 (UTC)
- No - Dumb: This one of those dopey Wiki ideas that crop up from time to time, usually due to Wiki user ignorance. The Phila Wings, in two different forms, if you know anything at all about lacrosse, are extremely notable on their own. 'Nuff said. -- 10stone5 (talk) 22:13, 29 January 2015 (UTC)
I think after 4 more months, it's safe to say that we have a consensus of no here. I have removed the merge template on the page. --MrBoo (talk, contribs) 02:25, 8 May 2015 (UTC)
Move to Albany
[edit]Along the same lines as the above conversation, when the team moved from Philadelphia, I'm going to suggest that we keep the page as the history of ONLY the Black Wolves. The infobox should retain the info of the former club. I'll work on creation of a page for the Albany team in a bit. MattBinYYC (talk) 03:46, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
