[edit]I am a former employee of the Indianapolis Colts. I worked secrity at the Hoosier Dome/RCA Dome. What brought me to search up *defunct nfl teams* was the fact that during my time working for the Colts, the "official Lineage" of the Colts franchise was painted eastern wall of the room that all security employees had to go to check in and get thier section assignments. Which sparked curiosity in me. This room was called, Touchdown Club North. This room was also open to the public during NFL games as well asother events held inside the Dome and Indiana Convention Center. It included fancy seating private concessions and restrooms as well as souvenier stands and large screen tv's. Enough of describing the room, but anyways the point of this is that on the eastern wall, the Official Colts Lineage is listed as follows:
1. Boston Yanks 1944-48 2. New York Bulldogs 1949 3. New York Yanks 1950-51 4. Dallas Texans 1952 5. Baltimore Colts 1953-83 6. Indianapolis Colts 1984-Present
To ignore the New York Yankees of the [All-American Football Conference] is a huge mistake, especially in light of their merging with the New York Bulldogs to become the Yanks of the NFL. A strong argument can be made for the merging of this article with the New York Yankees article so that a continuous timeline could be made. first the league was call All America not All american. Second the bulldogs did not "merge" with the Yankees. The yankess folded with the AAFC the NFL did assign the rights of the players to the Bulldogs/Yanks. The reason the team was renamed the Yanks is because the team owner Collins had a team in Boston named the Yanks. He wanted a team in NY so he got a new team there in 49 but had to name the team bulldogs because of the yankess and yanks would be to simliar once the AAFC team was gone he could resume his old nickname yanks.
