Scout groups[edit]

anything included in a WP article must be somewhat notable. Whilst schools and churches are listed, scout groups are rarely listed in suburb articles (and I edit a lot of suburb articles). The cub packs and scout troops in Oatley are 1st Oatley Bay, 1st Oatley and 2nd Mortdale (also located in Oatley). 1st Oatley Bay also has a venturer unit and a rover crew. 1st padstow heights rovers also meet in Oatley. [1] Bevstarrunner (talk) 07:10, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Douglas D Cross Gardens[edit]

The Douglas Cross Gardens by the railway station deserve a mention. At present I cannot determine the date when they were built, but it was circa 1971-2. Bluedawe 23:47, 10 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oatley Street Names[edit]

I was born in Oatley, and spent the first 20 years of my life there.

I was always led to believe that the streets were named after the sons and daughters of James Oatley, viz. Ada, Frederick, Neville, Rosa, Algernon, Russell, Letitia, Charles, Annette, Herbert, and did he have a son named Wyong? Perhaps not.

I executed a genealogical search concerning clockmaker Mr Oatley and his mainspring, sorry, off-spring. I now know that what I was told as an Oatley child is not true. I am grieved beyond words at my infant betrayal. Well, not quite beyond words.

The streets were named after members of the family of Charles Cecil Grffiths, who bought Oatley's land from Oatley's son. The first (upper) part of Wyong St was once Cecil St.TrimmerinWiki (talk) 01:45, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
