I'm sure it deserves to be rated Start class for now. As for importance, I would suggest rating it "mid" - although the film is hardly known in the Western world, it has been enormously popular in Russia and other former Soviet states, it's hard to find someone from there who wouldn't see it at least once. I have to agree. It definitely pretty notable "in it's own area" of Soviet cinema, probably more than a number of official Soviet "epics" that made their way to the West - at least judging from its incomparably higher fame and popularity amongst Soviet and post-Soviet audience.
