The original Old Town Canoe buildings were demolished early in 2014. I added some information about that. Suggestions welcomed.--SojoQ (talk) 13:37, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Something that may confuse folks

[edit]

The quote about the Carleton Company may confuse people. What Stelmok and Thurlow were saying in their book is that Guy Carleton was the only canoe builder with BOAT building experience... the quote says that, but it might seem that the other canoe builders (Gerrish, Morris, etc.) were entrepreneurs like the Grays, without any hands-on building experience. In fact, the Grays were the first to enter the canvas canoe building arena without any canoe or boat building experience, setting the stage for other companies such as Kennebec Boat and Canoe Company which was also an entrepreneurial venture. I intend to work some more on this article. Squirrelwhisperer (talk) 13:59, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the C-quote regarding the Carleton Company as it really wasn't about Old Town, even though OT eventually purchased Carleton. When a Carleton article exists, it can go there. I added a different C-quote that provides an important message (I believe). I do think the C-quote in general is a nice thing to add to an article, as it breaks up text and can draw the reader's attention to something significant.Squirrelwhisperer (talk) 20:39, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
