Son of Oakes Ames?

[edit]

Other sources say younger brother of Oakes Ames.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.146.42.239 (talk) 16:34, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oliver Ames father was named Oakes Ames, his grand father was named Oliver Ames, the grandfather had two sons one named Oliver and another named Oakes, so The congressman Oakes Ames did have a brother named Oliver however that Oliver was not the congressman Oliver Ames

Governor Oliver Ames was the second son of Oakes Ames (U.S. Congressman) and Evelina (Gilmore) Ames. The IMAGE on this page is INCORRECT; it happens to be of his uncle, Oliver Ames, Jr., brother of Oakes Ames. The governor's grandfather was also named Oliver; it was he who started the Ames Shovel Company in Easton, Mass. For further corroboration, please refer to William Chaffin's History of Easton, 1886. For a correct image, contact either the archivist at the Stonehill Industrial History Center at Stonehill College in Easton and/or the Easton Historical Society. 67.253.82.178 (talk) 00:17, 5 April 2011 (UTC)S L Ames[reply]
