On the Floor (song)On the Floor — Per naming and notability conventions, "On the Floor (song)" is most notable of the two topics of the name "On the Floor" as Jennifer Lopez as notable as a tv personality, singer and actress. The song itself has charted is has received more coverage than the one review that the album On the Floor (album) received... in fact the album should not exist per WP:NALBUMS as there is nothing beyond a track listing. Its evident here that "On the Floor (song)" is the most notable topic. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 15:43, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

To the editor,

I just wanted to thank you for providing this page for us, but I have found other charts where the song has charted, for example Greece #13, and France #30, the reason I do not do the adds is because I don't know how and I just don't want to mess your page up. So if you can please add them...I'll find more charts where the single has been on.

The following sentence needs editing: "...reached top-five in most countries around the world, including reaching number one in eight countries, except for Germany where it reached top-ten and the UK, where its release is still pending."

What counts as "most countries around the world"? In fact, the syntax of that entire sentence is questionable. Re-word and re-evaluate please. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.184.34.231 (talk) 00:25, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Request to remove comparisons to Kat DeLunas video

The article comparing the video to Kat's is wrong, because is talking about the "Good Hit" teaser video and NOT On the floor's, i've been trying to remove it, but someone who obviously didn't even bother to check the video kept putting it back

I dunno where should i have posted this, sorry if it's in the wrong section —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.121.239.136 (talk) 16:18, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

You are mistaken... and I quote directly from the articles: first of all the comparisons lyric-wise "After J.Lo's single "On the Floor" leaked to the Web on Friday and premiered officially on Ryan Seacrest's radio show Monday morning, sharp-eared listeners noted the track bore a discomforting resemblance, musically and lyrically, to DeLuna's "Party O'Clock," which was released last fall." Then music video/teaser wise: "Now that photos and clips of the 41-year-old Lopez's video for "On the Floor" have hit the Internet, sources close to DeLuna, 23, are speaking out about the startling similarities. When J.Lo's video is compared to the clip for "Party O'Clock," there are frames in which the singers look as if they dressed from the same wardrobe. In "Party O'Clock," DeLuna rocks leopard-print leggings and a black strapless leotard as she gyrates in a club scene. In her video, J.Lo dons a blue leopard-print leotard with dark blue leopard leggings. According to a source who scrutinized a rough cut of Lopez's video, J.Lo also imitates DeLuna's "dance hall moves" as she ... gyrates in a club scene." Now where IS any mention of "Good Hit" despite thier being multiple name=drops of "On the Floor"? — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 18:39, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

I'm only talking about the video comparisons to be removed, and u completely missed the point, there's no mention of "Good Hit" because the quoted article is WRONG, Jennifer Lopez is not wearing any leopard-print outfit on "On the floor" video which just premiered tonight, u can go search on youtube both videos and see where she is wearing the outfit being compared to Kat's —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.82.222.121 (talk) 06:01, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

okies. im editing from the uk where its 6am. when its a more sociable hour of the day i'll re-read the sources and look into the situation. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 06:13, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Edit request from Nmhl, 4 March 2011

{{edit semi-protected}}

Please remove the section under title Reception where the 'On The Floor' video is compared to Kat DeLuna as this is inaccurate information. The video therein referred with the blue leotard is actually that of the promo single 'Good Hit' and not 'On The Floor' and should therefore not be on this page. Clearly the journalist was misinformed.

Nmhl (talk) 12:31, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

In response to this and above, I've read the descriptions and issues. The information will be removed shortly. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 14:02, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Music video section

In the synopsis section, a lot of it needs to be re-written to remove POV, such as the bit where she "breaks it down fly-girl style." Who says this? This is opinionated and needs to be noted where it is coming from. Candyo32 18:33, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

I've changed per your concerns. will copy edit the synopsis section. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 00:31, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Edit request from Fuerzag9, 1 April 2011

1.- There is a mistake with the names of some of the authors, in the article is writen: Gonzalo G. Hermosa, Gonzalo U. Hermosa, when the correct names should be, Gonzalo Hermosa and Ulises Hermosa, both founding members of the folkloric band Los Kjarkas from Bolivia. 2.- Kaoma's hit, Lambada. Jennifer Lopez 's single "On The Floor" samples Los Kjarkas's single "Llorando Se Fue".The song's lyrics and music had been lawfully registered in 1985 by the brothers Gonzalo and Ulises Hermosa of Los Kjarkas- in Germany's Music and Authors Society (GEMA). (Please let's be clear and careful, the brazilian version from Kaoma just added to the original bolivian song Llorando se fue an upbeat of Lambada rhythm, and the J-lo song On the floor a dance, electropop rythm with other elements more, but both are based on the Kjarkas's song)

As a reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lambada_%28song%29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Kjarkas http://loskjarkas.com.bo/web/hist.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mT4T5GyGqRQ

Fuerzag9 (talk) 18:06, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

All of the sources say that the composition sampled in "On the Floor" is "Lambada". No one denies that "Lambada" samples "Llorando Se Fue" but when a song samples another song, it adds elements to it. Sampling refers to the melodic notes, instruments and sounds... all of the reliable third party sources say that "On the Floor" samples "Lambada". Thus when people want to know about that they will click on "Lambada", where they can find out about the songs that "Lambada" samples. When the album is released this will be made more clear in the album booklet credits. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 18:55, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Netherlands Chart

Dutch Top 100 Singles and Dutch Top 40 which one is right? I think the Dutch Top 100 Singles correct, because Dutch Top 40 connected to the Radio 538. Radio playlists aren't valid. Lady Gaga "Born This Way" and Britney Spears "Hold It Against Me" songs Netherlands chart is based on the Dutch Top 100 Singles. Please help me. Thank you.

Dutch Top 100 Singles: http://dutchcharts.nl/weekchart.asp?cat=s

Dutch Top 40:http://www.top40.nl/index.aspxalptns90 (talk) 10:12, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Correction, Dutch Top 40 is not connected to Radio 358... it is simply reported by the station. If the song had debuted higher on the Dutch Top 40 you wouldn't be asking this question. The Single Top 100 is a component of the Dutch Top 40. Single Top = (Airplay + Digital Sales) where as Dutch 40 = (Airplay + Digital Sales + Physical Sales) — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 16:12, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

BBC Radio One

The article, under the heading Background, reports that "On the Floor" is from the B-playlist on the UK's Radio One which has now been upgraded to the A-playlist, April 09, 2011. "It was added the B-playlist on the UK's biggest mainstream radio station, BBC Radio 1, on March 16, 2011.[13]"

This should be outlined instead as "It was added the B-playlist on the UK's biggest mainstream radio station, BBC Radio 1, on March 16, 2011 before being upgraded to the A-playlist, on April 09, 2011. [13] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.4.196.23 (talk) 20:57, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Charts

Who actually cares about the charts in Slovakia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.48.115.186 (talk) 19:53, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

That is just rude. Wikipedia does not descriminate against any country. Slovakia has an officially recognised and published singles chart, thus there is no issue with including it. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 21:35, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

I added the Latin Songs chart for the Spanish version of the song ("Ven a Bailar"). Yet it doesn't show up Lopez's Latin Songs history. Here is a link from the current week. DJ Magician Man (talk) 14:07, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Music Video

The video is about to break 400,000,000 views on youtube, why is this not included... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.215.138.7 (talk) 22:01, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

Yes, this is worth covering. It's now garnered over 500 million views, making it apparently YouTube's alltime #2 video (after Justin Bieber's Baby).[1] I've mentioned this in the Music video/Reception section. --Avenue (talk) 03:07, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

Plagiarism

I have an old spin top which plays the exact tune as the chorus. I've heard this tune my entire life and have wondered its name before I heard this song. Can someone identify this tune? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.194.151.133 (talk) 15:10, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

"On the Floor" samples "Llorando sue fu" by Los Kjarkas which was later sampled by Lambada (song) (Kaoma). — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 21:52, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
The 1981 Bolivian predecessor song is actually called "Llorando se fue." - 2001:470:D:468:7455:7A:1C17:3DB4 (talk) 04:17, 25 October 2015 (UTC)

This song samples the music of a very old Indian music track "sochna kya jo bhi hoga dekha jayega" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.204.169.199 (talk) 06:06, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Ven a Bailar

I don't know where these go in the artilcle, but anyway, the Spanish version of "On the Floor", "Ven a Bailar" was translated by Julio Copello and Jimena Romero per album liner notes. Also, "Ven a Bailar" received two Latin Billboard Award nominations for "Song of the Year, Vocal Event" and "Latin Pop Song of the Year". Source. Erick (talk) 05:16, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

Interesting that the Spanish title translates as "Come dance." Does anyone know where the English title came from? Coincidentally, the 1989 Kaoma remix of "Llorando se fue" contains the Portuguese phrase "aonde for" which for a person knowing English and not Portuguese may be mistaken for the chosen English title "On the Floor." Is that the source? - 2001:470:D:468:7455:7A:1C17:3DB4 (talk) 04:31, 25 October 2015 (UTC)

Bad References

When I came to this article to check where the song peaked at in different countries, I noticed that most of the weekly chart entries are incorrect. For example, it says "On the Floor" peaked at number one on Billboard, but that's wrong. It peaked at number 3 (reference:http://www.billboard.com/artist/304444/jennifer-lopez/chart). The Netherlands, Denmark, and New Zealand Chart entries are also incorrect (reference:http://australian-charts.com/showitem.asp?interpret=Jennifer+Lopez+feat%2E+Pitbull&titel=On+The+Floor&cat=s). Normally I'd change them myself but I'm busy with other things right now so I can't. I'd appreciate it if someone could edit the weekly charts AS WELL as changing the references, because some of them are either incorrect or dead. I'd appreciate a quick edit. Thank you and happy new year! -Nowmusicfan2816 (talk) 20:58, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
