I think this entry is a little misleading because stellar interiors are not the only astrophysical application of optical depth. It is also used for radiation traversing the interstellar medium and emerging from accretion disks.
- I agree. I think it'd be beneficial for this page to be expanded, especially in terms of application. The general optical depth page has a section for astronomy and includes a bit about planetary rings, which is not mentioned at all in the astrophysics page for optical depth.
