Merge

[edit]

I propose any salvageable content from Organic search engine be merged here. --ZimZalaBim talk 14:19, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This doesn't seem related to the current contents of organic search engine. I'm more in favor of merging that article with human search engine. Dreamyshade (talk) 22:53, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"John Kilroy in a 2004 article on paid search marketing"

[edit]

From searching on Google for articles in the relevant time, I don't see any mention of a person named John Kilroy who wrote about paid search marketing.

Is there any evidence that this person actually exists? I'm not even asking if he was the one who invented the term paid search marketing (as the article claims.

My Google Search:

https://www.google.com/search?q=john+kilroy+paid+search&source=lnt&tbs=cdr%3A1%2Ccd_min%3A2003%2Ccd_max%3A2004&tbm=

I think there's grounds to simply remove that sentence altogether because it seems completely made up based on my research. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hayksaakian (talkcontribs) 22:29, 28 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've also just spent a few unsuccessful minutes trying to source this. You say: "I think there's grounds to simply remove that sentence altogether because it seems completely made up based on my research" - but the only research you say you've done is a quick Google. :) That's not really sufficient. It might have been printed offline, in a newspaper or magazine, or in some online source that's no longer available. It would be good to nail this quote because a) an obvious question from reading this article is "Why the heck is it called organic search and not (say) editorial search or unpaid search or.... [something else to distinguish it from paid search]?" and b) Inevitably, tons of other web pages, offline articles, etc recycle this claim made here in Wikipedia about John Kilroy. 82.71.0.229 (talk) 11:13, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I spent a few minutes looking for older sources and found a blog post on clickz.com using the phrase 'organic search'. https://www.clickz.com/sem-arbitrage-golden-or-cooked-goose/84473/ I mentioned John Kilroy as the main problem because there's no reason to believe the person exists, let alone that that they wrote something about search marketing. The only reference to "John Kilroy" is from a mid 90s court case with nothing to do about search. I'll dig through usenet / mailing lists to see if I can find more verifiable earlier usages.
