Iraq membership

[edit]

Iraq denied membership or they refused to join? FRUS volumes say they refused to join, prefering to work with the arab league (a more radical org.) http://www.state.gov/www/about_state/history/vol_xxxiv/za.html (doc 268, last one) will change, but not sure of facts... -Jowe 20:47, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know either. I wrote most of the article, mainly based on Kelly's book, so he probably says "denied membership", can't find the book right now, will say more when I do. Maybe sources differ; maybe the decision was mutual?John Z 02:06, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Kelly says "As an additional precaution, it was also laid down that membership should be dependent upon the approval of the three founding members, a condition which served to keep the refractory Iraqis out." p.329 So he appears to be implying "denying" or that membership would be denied if it were requested, but not excluding that Iraq never asked or wanted to ask. Probably both versions are true; Iraq wouldn't join a club that didn't want it as a member anyways, so I'll write something saying that. Good find in the FRUS.John Z 05:02, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oman? Why never a member?

[edit]

Why was Oman never a member of OAPEC? Did it ever want to join? Did other members ever want it to? Why and/or why not? Benefac (talk) 02:39, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
