HJ Heinz
[edit]Heinz opened a factory in Orrell, in 1959. That factory was, at the time, amongst the largest food production plants in the World and is still active today. This should be mentioned in the article. Although, it's pointless me putting it in because it'll only be removed by some know-nowt who thinks only of Wigan and Wigan council.
Parliamentary constituency
[edit]I believe the Orrell area is in the Makerfield constituency at the moment. (even though common sense says it should be in the Wigan seat) Man2
It was known as Orrell in Makerfield to distinguish it from the other Orrell closer to Liverpool.
Disambiguation
[edit]Why doesn't this article direct to Orrell itself. There is no other Orrell; Orrell Park is already linked in the article's DAB link, and the other Orrells are teams related to this place. Just a thought. Jhamez84 13:49, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- Orrell Park is also referred to as Orrell I gather... Regan123 16:22, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure about the above, we should leave a post on the Orrell Park article to find out how is it referred to by locals. Personally I've never heard of anyone assuming Orrell Rugby Union was in Liverpool (Sefton). Man2 16:39, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Man2
Orrell 'Park' is called that to distinguish it from the Other Orrell, which is near Wigan.
Also known as
[edit]According to this reputable source, Orrell was also sometimes known as Orrell in Makerfield does that ring true? Might be worth adding to the lead as an archiac name if it's an olde. (like Greenacres, Greater Manchester does). --Jza84 | Talk 21:16, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- The Orrell in Makerfield name is mentioned in the 'Toponymy' section. The name hasn't applied since the 1700's as far as I'm aware, not sure it is needed in the lead of the article. What you think? Thanks. Man2 (talk) 12:17, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure. I guess if (or hopefully when) the article pads out enough, it might go in a future, expanded lead section...? --Jza84 | Talk 00:27, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
