Inspiration?[edit]

This article says that “this version of the Penguin inspired the character's depiction in other works, such as Batman: The Animated Series and The Batman, mostly in the terms of appearance.” What is this based on? Yes, there are similarities between this and the one in TAS, but the Penguin first appeared in TAS just a month or so after Batman Returns debuted in theatres. If I were to guess, I would say that the reason for the similarities is that both are inspired by Burgess Meredith’s Penguin from the 60s show.

Per WP:NFILMCHAR, this article fails the "Three or more non-cameo appearances" criteria, although I'm curious to see if there was more extensive coverage on Danny Devito's portrayal of the Penguin.
