Quoting the article: " It (PSE) is more common in pigs sensitive to the anaesthetic halothane."

Is it exposure to halothane that increases the chance of PSE, or does an inherited sensitivity to halothane increase the risk, even though the pig is never exposed to halothane?

I don't know, which is why I left it in the middle. Halothane sensitivity is an inherited trait, similar to the condition malignant hyperthermia observed in humans. I don't know, however, whether all halothane-sensitive pigs are PSE. I read once that pig farmers use halothane cones to eliminate these pigs from their herds.
