Review[edit]

DVD complete Mania.com --KrebMarkt 06:58, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I added it to the article. Aldebaran66 (talk) 22:32, 13 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup[edit]

I have removed the maintenance tags after adding more material on the releases with references and correcting much of the existing material. I also upgraded the class of the article to "Start". Please let me know specifically if anything needs to be done. Note that much of the History section was WP:OR, stale or otherwise irrelevant, so I removed most of it. Aldebaran66 (talk) 02:12, 16 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am, at last, finished with the first cleanup pass on this article. Not that there isn't more work to do, but the first pass is done. Please read, comment and correct. For wholesale deletions, we might want to talk about it first. Aldebaran66 (talk) 02:11, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Some issues[edit]

1)Studio Kelmadick only produced the New Season. The OVA was produced by ECHIGOYA and distributed by Pink company, both of which were doujin circles. (Source: Original OVA DVD credits)

I listed the "producers" in the infobox for both OVA and TV from the DVD credits. Aldebaran66 (talk) 01:42, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Studio kelmadick isn't mentioned anywhere. Instead, it is clearly said that it is an ECHIGOYA production. If the Maiden Japan release claims that the OVA was a studio kelmadick production, they are mistaken.Vanakita (talk) 15:36, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

2)ECHIGOYA only produced the first episode and three promotional clips. Any "flashback" footage used in the new season is animated by Kelmadick.

Studio Kelmadick animated the OVA and the TV series. From the sudden jump forward in the story in the TV series it seems as though there is a missing season of unreleased material. Do you have links to the three promotional clips? Aldebaran66 (talk) 01:42, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
All three were on the internet at some point, by now one was taken down and the remaining two are still in their places.
1)Papillon rose PV1: (was taken down)
2)Papillon rose PV2: http://www.nicovideo.jp.am/watch/sm3266324 (PV1 and PV2 are featured in the Papillon Rose OVA DVD)
3)Rosetta Promo: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xdtfiq_papillon-rose-promo_shortfilms (This was distributed as a bonus in a CD-rom by Pink Company for merchandise purchases related to Papillon Rose)Vanakita (talk) 19:50, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Based on your links I found four trailers, perhaps you can tell me what they are. I added links to them to the External links section but they might get deleted as this Wiki doesn't like links to videos. Aldebaran66 (talk) 21:05, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x111xj_papillon-rose-op_fun This is the opening of the new season TV series. The Maiden Japan release has the OVA opening song instead due to a copyright issue between the original DVD distributors and the music copyright holders.
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xdtfiq_papillon-rose-promo_shortfilms This is the Rosetta Promo movie I listed above. It is a Promo for the OVA series.
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3f6n5_lingerie-senshi-papillon-rose-openi_music This is the two minute ONA promo that was made for the Promotional CD-Roms back in 2001. The CD-Roms were distributed in Comiket together with the first artbook.Vanakita (talk) 21:41, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

3)There should be more in this page about the series' background. How it started from being a simple parody idea, proceeded in doujinshi and ended on an actual anime series. There is plenty of info on the wayback machine catches of the old website and I will gladly provide you with translations if no one bothers to do so. Vanakita (talk) 12:23, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree! It would be especially good if we could have more Japanese sources. All of the old sources have been removed and I can't read Japanese well enough to find them again. There is no evidence that anything from the online fan uploads was ever used for the actual OVA or for the TV series. Shinji Tobita alone claims to be the creator of everything. Historical interest is limited to the sensation created by rumors of online fan input for an ONA series. Let's not overstate the lasting impact of what evidence now suggests was a hoax. Aldebaran66 (talk) 01:42, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know, Shinji Tobita created everything(from concept art to animations) in the ONA times(2000-2001), when the series wasn't even meant to be a commercial product. Even Pink company wasn't real back then; it was simply a parody of Red company(now known as Red Entertainment).
Fan input would be the stuff created by fans of the idea? Well, before the OVA, all voice actors and singers contributing to the series were amateurs, there was a BBS board for suggestions and feedback (I have to go through those messages sometime), plus in 2002 a group of english-speaking fans leaded by a girl (Her alias was Nikkita in the Papillon Rose LJ community) started working with Tobita on an english version of Papillon Rose. Oh, and I almost forgot, the first Papillon rose Artbook features an English translation of one of the series' original theme songs, sumbitted by two fans to the authors.
Anyway, catches of the old website on the wayback machhine are here:
http://web.archive.org/web/20010601000000*/http://www5b.biglobe.ne.jp/~novy
There is a ton of info in there. It pretty much covers the years 2001-2005 of the production from fanseries concept->doujinshi->OVA Production->Second season doujinshi->Movie finale concept.
Moreover, my collection includes the two Papillon Rose artbooks released for Comiket. Inside them, there are character profiles for Papillon Rose and Papillon rose R, original manga storyline, anime storylines and interviews with the supposed authors.
Please add a section (or I will add it) on the the contents of the Comiket, artbooks and the CD if you can provide references such as isbn's or other publication information. Perhaps you could even upload a screen shot of the CD front case cover artwork for the article. Aldebaran66 (talk) 21:05, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am no Japanese master myself but I can understand quite a few stuff in there and I believe I can give you a decent translationVanakita (talk) 19:50, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
