Move Page to Downtown Pasadena[edit]

I think the rightfull name of the pasadena Civic Center is Downtown Pasadena. San Bernardinos civic center article is called Downtown San Bernardino, Los Angeles's Civic Center is called Downtown Los Angeles, so why cant this one be called Downtown Pasadena? Please write your thoughts on whether this page should be moved. If no commets are made the page will be moved on Wednessday April 15, 2009. It should be made clear, however, that Downtown Pasadena includes other nearby districts.

The Pasadena Civic Center, consisting of certain historically significant government buildings, is one part of Downtown Pasadena. They are not interchangeable. The Pasadena Civic Center, as such, has been given recognition on the National Register of Historic Places and merits its own separate article, consistent with other sites/districts registered on the NRHP. This is no different than numerous other districts in major metropolitan districts that properly have separate listings. See, e.g., Spring Street Financial District and Broadway Theater and Commercial District, Civic Center, Los Angeles, California, or Bunker Hill, Los Angeles, California -- each of which is a distinct and notable part of Downtown Los Angeles. See also Civic Center, San Francisco, California in further support of this point. Another example, from within downtown Pasadena itself, is Old Town Pasadena. Important sections of a downtown area merit separate treatment, and this is even more warranted where a particular district has been given NRHP recognition. I would support House1090 in creating a new article on downtown Pasadena, if he/she so desires. But for the foregoing reasons, I strongly oppose the current proposal advanced by House1090 to re-name the existing article Downtown Pasadena. Cbl62 (talk) 01:57, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On April 17, 2009, House1090 left this message on my talk page: "It looks like thier are 2 ppl for the move and 1 against (you), if you can get more people by April 22, 2009, the change will not be made. -Thanx." I am not sure how House1090 comes by that accounting. Samhuddy noted above: "If anything, I would advise against the move." Also, House1090 has not responded to my points noted above, which seem to pretty clearly show that a stand-alone article for the Civic Center is desirable, appropriate and consistent with existing practice. Okay Civic Center is just another word for downtown, thats all it really is. In SoCal we use the word Downtown indtead of Civic Center. Even on the freeways it reads Downtown Pasadena not Pasadena Civic Center thats why I recommended the change. House1090 (talk) 01:35, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As stated above, Pasadena Civic Center is not just another word for "Downtown Pasadena." The Civic Center is a discrete cluster of government buildings that form one part of the downtown area. Can someone get inside the Holly Street Village Apartments and get a photo of the old Pasadena Police Station? It's a 1930 building which I just now found out was not demolished as the city website says, but ways actually converted into lofts. You can't see it from the street; it's towards the center of the complex. It allegedly is on the National Register of Historic Places.
