Death date
[edit]There are two different years of death in the article; which is correct, 1962 or 1998? -- 208.81.184.4 (talk) 11:39, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
- Excellent question! The source I found said 1962, Artist's source says 1998. I'm at work now, but later on, I'll take a look and let you know what I find... - Ecjmartin (talk) 17:51, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
- Jerald Tanner's publication lists her death date as 10/19/1962; since this man knew Pauline personally (and was part of her church at this time in his life), and since this date (at least the year) is mentioned in other sources, I have gone with that date for her death. In addition, it is clear that Pauline remained a believer in the Book of Mormon and the leader of her church up to the time of her death; since her church rejected the BOM in 1973 and dissolved itself in 1984, not to mention that Steven Shields in Divergent Paths of the Restoration says "Mrs. Hancock died several years ago" in a circa-1990 edition of his book, I have to go with the earlier date. I'm wondering if the "find a grave" reference (which was the source for the alternate date) didn't get two Pauline Hancocks mixed together; perhaps they thought the lady they were speaking of was the same as the one who is spoken of in this article. At any event, since the overwhelming preponderance of evidence tends toward the earlier date, I'm going with that one unless someone is able to prove otherwise. - Ecjmartin (talk) 18:04, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
