the Notes
[edit]Oh, maybe it is not supposed to "do" anything, THAT IS, there should not be a POP-UP for this type of citation, and it is just since I was doing a comparison of versions that I got this strange box - shown in the screen print. Darn. That's probably it. If you don't want to bother looking at this, I think that would be ok enough, but there is a small obscure bug here. ( Martin | talk • contribs 07:45, 1 December 2013 (UTC))
Holding
[edit]Just to note that this text:
Who is the sovereign, de jure or de facto, of a territory is not a judicial, but a political question, the determination of which by the legislative and executive departments of any government conclusively binds the judges, as well as all other officers, citizens, and subjects of that government.
is surely not the holding, since it is a quote (with changes only in punctuation) from an earlier decision, Jones v. United States (1890). The holding is the application of this principle to the issue at hand, the legal status of Isle of Pines. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 01:55, 18 February 2016 (UTC)
