Types of spider pedipalps

Sketches and description of different spider pedipalps would be very nice :) Also that for example Tidarren males break one of their pedipalps off prior to mating and stuff like that. --Sarefo 01:35, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Non-arthropod palps

This looks like the start of a nice article. However other extensions used as "feelers" are also described as "palps", e.g. in annelids. I doubt whether ther's enough to justifiy and general article (it would probably just say " ..are extensions used as feelers"), so I suggest you make this article more generalised, and treat arthropod palps as one of the more significant examples. -Philcha (talk) 08:18, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I had the same thought. Maybe "Palps" should be a separate article about sensory feelers, instead of a redirect to here. Unless the other structures known as palps in non-chelicerate species are homologous, I think they would merit a separate article if there is enough material. Remember that Wikipedia articles are about concepts, not words, so the fact that the term is used in multiple ways does not necessarily mean those uses should be addressed in a single article. Merge proposal: Cymbium (spider anatomy) into Spider pedipalps section

I encountered a very brief article on Cymbium (spider anatomy) after following a DYK link DYK link to Giant huntsman spider. The next natural link to follow was that for structure, namely Pedipalp, wherein the section on spider pedipalps was found. The pedipalp article is itself brief, though not as brief as the spider cymbium one.

I suggest that by merging the Cymbium (spider anatomy) article into the spider pedipalp section of this article, an improvement to this article is gained, along with an improvement in overall reader information. In the unlikely event that the section subsequently grows disproportionately, it can always be split again. But (a) that is unlikely, and (b) even if it did occur, wouldn't happen anytime in the short or medium term future. Wotnow (talk) 08:08, 16 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Other types of Palp in insects

Just a quick drive-by question: How come 'Palp' redirects to this page, when this article seems exclusively about pedipalps and makes no mention of the two other main mouthpart structures - labial palps and maxillary palps in insects? I'm surprised the three aren't subsections of a single page for 'Palp', or that the redirect works in this way. Looks like there's scope for a bit of work that could be done here.
