Birth of son affecting political career
[edit]I don't know if a reference can be found for what those of us working on his campaign knew. But it was during the gubernatorial campaign that his son was born, very prematurely. The campaign was already virtually un-winnable against the very popular Kean, but a showing over 40% would have left Shapiro as a strong player in the state Democratic Party and a likely nominee for the open gubernatorial election in 1989, when term limits would prevent Kean from running. instead, with election not winnable anyway, Shapiro focused his energy on his family, which sorely needed him. The led to the record-breaking loss and his weakened position, which also led to his ouster as county Executive. Dvd Avins (talk) 23:21, 5 December 2012 (UTC)
