Population of Pingelap

[edit]

The current population of Pingelap Atoll is approximately 250 individuals. Prior to 1985, the population was approximately 800, but it has decreased rapidly in the last 25 due to relocation of the Pingelapese people. I suspect that the 3000 number reflects the total population of Pingelapese people throughout the world, most of whom do not reside on Pingelap Atoll (although I suspect that that number may be a bit dated as well). Contradiction

[edit]

Quote:

"A significant proportion, 4.92%,[6] of the population have complete achromatopsia (known on the island as maskun, meaning literally "not see" in Pingelapese), a recessive genetic disorder that causes total color-blindness in sufferers.[7]

[...]

Today the atoll is still of particular interest to geneticists; due to the small gene pool and rapid population growth, the disorder is now prevalent in almost 10% of the population, with a further 30% being unaffected carriers [...]"

"4.92%" and "almost 10%" cannot be both true. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.204.155.74 (talk) 16:00, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Color-Blindness

[edit]

Quote: The commentator said that in his brain, brain capacity intended to process cone signals is instead added to his rod signal processing capacity.

What commentator? The commentator is referenced for the first time in this sentence.

-The commentator is probably from the BBCTV program referenced in this paragraph, but I agree that it needs to be re-written. What makes "The commentator" an expert? The sentence makes it sound like a guess or something made up. I also take issue with "brain, brain capacity". Suggested edit (Have not actually seen the program in question which is why I'm not making the change): The same report claimed that the night vision capabilities are enhanced because the brain functions that would normally be used to process cone signals have been added to the processing capacity of the rods. Carriers

[edit]

I have removed brackets and reference to asymptomatic carriers which confuses genetic carriers (heterozygotes) with carriers of bacterial disease - RGS — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.14.235.194 (talk) 11:27, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
