Secession effort in Northern Maine

[edit]

I removed a section from Aroostook County because the story clearly was talking about the secession of the whole of northern Maine, to b e defined as the 2nd congressional district (at the time), so it would be exactly half the population. This is clearly very different from just Aroostook County. This might belong here instead, or perhaps on a page like potential new U.S. states. But I hold off for now, as the story is old, and because similar movements are found in many other states. "the two Oregons" etc are common phrases and can be found for many other states, with particularly large states like California potentially splitting into three or more states. None of these are likely to happen. If mentioned at all, it is probably best to group them together so that it doesnt look like any one split is particularly more likelt than others. This is already mentioned on List_of_U.S._state_partition_proposals#Maine, so I will leave it for now. Soap 07:50, 7 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
