I am trying to get the citations to link to the references below without duplicating. Choanoflagellate 23:29, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I still can't get it to turn out the way I want. I would like to have each reference listed below once and each time I cite it in the text it gives the approriate number. For example if I use reference "3" six times I want it to use "3" each time and list it in the reference section only once. I have looked at the structure of some pages such Jabba The Hut, but I can't get this page to behave that way. Thanks 69.107.135.214 14:54, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The first time that you link to a reference, write it as <ref name="name_here">text of reference</ref>; subsequent times, write < ref name="name_here" />. (Note the position of the slashes; many people mess that up.) Of course, you should use a more descriptive name for the reference than name_here (use the same name each time for the reference you're repeating, and a different name for different references). Hope that helps! --ais523 14:56, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
