Contested deletion

[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because it provides a fair and non-promotional overview of the history and capabilities of a highly notable and leading company in its industry (information security).

The mere fact that there is nothing negative to say about Qualys does not make this an unbalanced or promotional article -- the company merely has an excellent track record, free of notable scandal or other negative events.

I have no affiliation with the company. But I do know this industry very well.

Proposed changes to the History section

I would like to address the concern that the article contains advertising language. Thus far I have substantially shortened the "Awards" section, removing references to specific awards that are less significant. Below is a suggested new version of the "History" section, which removes a good deal of unnecessary detail. Hoping a Wikipedia editor can review prior to posting. (There are a couple of notes in the text where I am still working to refine this prior to posting.) -Tamicasey (talk) 15:43, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Page edits

[edit]

Hi, I'm Tami and I work for Qualys. I intend to adhere to all Wiki policies and understand that substantial edits could fall into a conflict of interest, so I would like to get feedback on some proposed article enhancements or encourage others to add to the article. In the meantime, I'd like to make a few minor/straightforward updates. ---Tamicasey (talk) 15:43, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

History

[edit]

Philippe Courtot first invested in the company in 1999. He became CEO and board chair in 2001. Courtot aimed to build software that would "let people see the network as hackers see it."[1]

The company launched QualysGuard in 2000, making Qualys one of the first entrants in the vulnerability management market.[2] This software could automatically scan corporate LANs for vulnerabilities and search for an available patch. The company subsequently added compliance, malware detection, and web application scanning to its platform. [3][4]

Qualys went public on NASDAQ with the symbol QLYS on September 28, 2012, raising net proceeds of $87.5 million.[5][6]

Qualys then launched is Cloud Platform and lightweight cloud agent to continuously assess security and compliance of organizations' global IT infrastructure and applications. The new Cloud Platform helped organizations assess and address the security and compliance of their IT assets in real time, whether on-premises, cloud-based or mobile.[7][8][9]

Organizations use the Qualys Cloud Platform and its integrated apps to simplify IT and security operations and help reduce cyber risk. Qualys is known for its vulnerability management, detection and response (VMDR) solution and asset management, and has added patch, cloud, container, and mobile security capabilities along with endpoint detection and response (EDR) and now extended detection and response (XDR).[10]

Request removal of Advertisement banner

[edit]

I propose removal of the "advertisement" banner, which @InvadingInvader:‎ added in August 2021 (for this revision of the article).. I agree with the addition at that time, but since then I have worked to remove portions that do not properly reflect Wikipedia's Neutral Point of View policy, trim ephemeral and poorly sourced information, and to improve the sourcing. Specifically, I trimmed the History section, removing information that was sourced only to press releases, and I removed details about many awards. I left a few awards from organizations that are independently notable and have their own Wikipedia articles. (The final sentence, which preserves the original list of awards in the footnotes, could be removed as well if others think it worthwhile.)

I hope InvadingInvader or another editor independent of the company can review whether this banner should still apply. I have worked hard to respect Wikipedia's content standards, but I do work for the company. Tamicasey (talk) 04:19, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know. I'll review it; please do however make sure to follow the proper WP:COI procedures for stuff you declare. Sometimes, it's best to just avoid the subject in question, though I can understand why you'd want to edit this particular article. I did some further copyediting, but this article still has some room to go before I think the ad tag can be removed. Consider reaching out to WikiProject Companies and WikiProject Computing if you'd like some help....I'm currently involved with a few other things so I won't be able to focus as much on this article.
