Largest?
[edit]The article is not clear by what measure it is the largest airbase. To my mind this could be any number of measures:
- Real estate
- Runway length
- No. of aircraft
- No. of personel
- A.N. Other
Apologies if it's obvious, I haven't checked d any of the sources and only gave the article a cursory read. MickMacNee (talk) 15:23, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
PROTESTS
There's clearly something wrong with the start to this section. "Unlike many ...." should surely be "Like many".
Name
[edit]I grew up in Carterton, which is the principal town co-located with RAF Brize Norton and home to many serving (and former) RAF personnel. In school I was taught (anecdotally) that the RAF station was called RAF Brize Norton, rather than RAF Carterton, because of the existence at the time of RAF Cardington and the possibility of mistaken identity over radio communications. I can find no source for this though. Weasley one (talk) 13:30, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
- The majority of the time the airfields were named after the nearest place with a railway station since Brize Norton had a railway station and Carterton did not. However in some cases the airfield was named something different if the name sounded like another airfield that already existed. Gavbadger (talk) 14:05, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
Current/past squadrons
[edit]Thx811 Should not 10, 99 & 101 Squadrons be removed form the past units section? They are currently operating from Brize, and I assumed that they were left there because at the time they operated different aircraft? But the more I think about it, it doesn't make sense. - I would completely agree, squadrons should be within either the current or past units sections, rather than both. I did update the current units but hadn't noticed that those squadrons mentioned were in the past section too so I'll amend the list. Regards Thx811 (talk) 21:36, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
