Article title

[edit]

This article (and the corresponding district article) was moved to the current title of Ramanagar, Karnataka after spending the previous ten years at Ramanagara (with no disamb). The reason given for this move was 'Official spelling is "Ramanagar" as per Govt. of Karnataka/India'. This is not really relevant for Wikipedia. There are three forms of the name in use, the above two and also Ramanagaram. Checking for common usage for "Ramanagara, Karnataka", "Ramanagar, Karnataka", "Ramanagaram, Karnataka" (all with quotes) gives;

  • Google hits, 15.8k - 14.3 - 25.6k.
  • Google books search, 6 - 4 - 50.

Similar figures can be found for the district, currently at Ramanagar district and it probably should be renamed if it happens along with this town, as happened with the recent move. . Hence it seems that the name should be Ramanagaram. But I'm not sure this is really in current usage at all, even if it was the standard name in the 1950's and some following decades. The district website uses Ramanagara. The town website uses both Ramanagara and Ramanagaram. Views sought. Imc (talk) 19:22, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Do not move this article. The Common English Name as used in India is Ramanagar whereas Ramanagara and Ramanagaram are used regionally. Pdheg (talk) 19:40, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ramanagara is the most commonly used name and that was reflected in the original name before the move. we should go back to the most commonly used name.Jugaari cross (talk) 15:34, 9 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
