Band
[edit]Well, the "former" german SKA Band is still alive and kicking. Would be nice if someon could correct that in the article. Thx.
In the animated series Rantanplan is called Bushwack. Is this his official name in English or did they only use it in that series?
I don't know, but Go West: A Lucky Luke Adventure's Canadian dub named him "Rintindumb." Aside from the shorts, I'm guessing it's a relatively local thing since it would probably be mentioned in the article if it wasn't... 151.197.192.10 (talk) 05:53, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
Ra-ta-?
[edit]"...and in Norwegian is an euphemism for buttocks." Really? That's new for me, and I am Norwegian. --128.39.12.150 (talk) 14:52, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
Reply: My grandmother used the term to mean "ass", as in "falt på rattata" ("fell on [his] butt"). Other than that, I would say it is probably either obscure or dated. However, the article now states that it is a euphemism for sex -- which is certainly unfamiliar to me. 75.181.60.123 (talk) 00:59, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- I have now removed this section which was poor and pointless anyway - problem solved. Mezigue (talk) 07:59, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
The name "Rantanplan" is a conflation of the name "Rin Tin Tin" and the noun "rataplan", which in both English and French is a word that represents the sound of a drum. The word originated in French and entered English in the 19th century. See the Oxford English Dictionary for details [1]. I would speculate that the Norwegian term derives from the practice of spanking a child on the posterior. Paulannis (talk) 12:30, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
