Uses section is muddled

[edit]

It starts with a section on preparation and properties, which are clearly not usages as such. Then it dives into a long section of caning.

Maybe restructuring it with sub-sections on various derived products with descriptions of how it each prepared, and sub-sub-sections on usages with a wider variety of topics and less emphasis on describing what pain is used for. I'm thinking about something like this:

  • Uses
    • Wicker
      • Furniture
      • Sepak Takraw balls
    • Wood
      • Staffs & Canes
      • Instrument Handles
    • Resin - Dragons Blood
    • etc.

Most of the stuff on caning doesn't belong here at all, nor does the section on "The Sandman" and wrestling.

Any comments on this? --j (talk) 10:32, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the reference to caning is useful. The use of the rattan is a unique aspect of South East Asian law enforcement. The mention of Michael P.Fay is not useful and seems only to be included because was a white person. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.156.9.236 (talk) 09:30, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also the bit about Society for Creative Acronyms is BS. I'll remove it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.156.9.236 (talk) 09:33, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rattans of India

[edit]

The page Rattans of India was created today, but a lot of its information seems pretty general about rattans. I've suggested on that article's talk page that a merge might be in order - if anyone has comments, feel free to reply there. Olaf Davis | Talk 10:30, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

synthetic cane

[edit]

Synthetic cane covered outdoor furniture has become popular. Ultraviolet light tollerance is required for the feedstock resin. Sources of synthetic cane are? Help. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.111.110.28 (talk) 14:39, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Caning

[edit]

The section on "caning" should be made into its own article and, if desired, cited briefly from rattan. Caning is not so relevant to rattan.

No. There is already an article Caning, but the short paragraph in this article should stay. Rattan is extremely relevant to caning. -- Alarics (talk) 09:41, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
