Discography

[edit]

Is it cool if I change the layout to be more like the one in Shady Records? I'd probably do it without the singles, RIAA Certification, and most of the charting positions though, and leave that bit to someone who'd know... What do you guys think? -- Harish - 13:43, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is what I had in mind:

Artist Album Release date Chart positions
Jay-Z Reasonable Doubt 25/Jun/1996 #23 U.S.[1]
Jay-Z In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 04/Nov/1997 #3 U.S.[1]
Soundtrack Streets Is Watching 05/May/1998 #27 U.S.[2]
Jay-Z Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life 19/Sep/1998 #1 U.S.[1]
DJ Clue The Professional 08/Dec/1998 #26 U.S.[3]
Memphis Bleek The Coming of Age 03/Aug/1999 #7 U.S.[4]
Jay-Z Vol. 3... Life and Times of S. Carter 28/Dec/1999 #1 U.S.[1]
Beanie Sigel The Truth 29/Feb/2000 #1 U.S.[5]
DJ Clue DJ Clue Presents: Backstage - A Hard Knock Life (Soundtrack) 29/Aug/2000 #6 U.S.[3]
Amil All Money Is Legal 29/Aug/2000 #45 U.S.[6]
Memphis Bleek The Understanding 10/Oct/2000 #16 U.S.[4]
Jay-Z The Dynasty: Roc La Familia 31/Oct/2000 #1 U.S.[1]
DJ Clue The Professional, Pt. 2 19/Dec/2000 #3 U.S.[3]
Beanie Sigel The Reason 26/Jun/2001 #5 U.S.[5]
Jay-Z The Blueprint 18/Sep/2001 #1 U.S.[1]
Jay-Z Jay-Z: Unplugged 18/Dec/2001 #31 U.S.[1]

If other fields like "RIAA certification" and "Singles" are wanted, it's easy to add. But what do you think - worth changing? -- Harish - 15:07, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Despite the XXL interview from Peedi Peedi (Peedi Crakk), Their managers stated they're still with the label —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.13.206.7 (talk) 20:27, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed a part of the former artist Murder Inc. was never a part of Roc-A-Fella nor was DMX or Jay-Z ever in Murder Inc. So I thought I'd clean that up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.230.0.85 (talk) 01:39, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rockefeller

[edit]

Just curious where would be the source that would link Roc-A-Fella to John Rockefeller? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.74.151.201 (talk) 13:46, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Roc A Fella records is NOT named after John D. Rockefeller.

Jay-Z’s label was named after a Brooklyn drug lord named Rocafella who died of AIDS when it was first becoming an epidemic in the black community. Hence the Nas line in Ether "Roc a fella died of AIDS that was the end of his chapter, and that's the guy y'all choose to name ya company after?" None of the famous Rockefellers ever died of AIDS.

From the Jaz-O song “Love is gone”: “Rocafella had the crown on the block, him and Sync gettin' bent I was 10 lookin' at them intrigued” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4c6iAEBIhO0 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.39.210.169 (talk) 16:51, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

cok-A-Fella

[edit]

Why is the title of the page "cok-A-Fella"? Someone want to change that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Risingstarr22 (talkcontribs) 04:40, 15 September 2009 (UTC) that was a phrase from nas' song ether —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.84.237.169 (talk) 06:41, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request from 208.201.160.2, 22 October 2010

[edit]

{{edit semi-protected}} Roc-a-fella records is not named after John Rockefeller but after Rocafella, a legendary hustler in the neighborhood Shawn Carter aka Jay-Z grew up in, the Marcy Projects in Brooklyn. This is referenced in the Nas song "Ether". Rocafella is also mentioned in numerous other songs by NY rappers, such as "Love is Gone" by Jaz-O (also from the Marcy Projects).

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Thanks, Stickee (talk) 00:04, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Origin of name

[edit]

I removed this sentence:

The label's title refers to a Marcy hustler and drug dealer whom Jay-Z idolized, known as 'Rockafella' after American oil and Business magnate John D. Rockefeller.

The sources were: http://boards.ign.com/teh_vestibule/b5296/202807912/r202808208/ and http://slumz.boxden.com/f87/rockefeller-died-aids-1347732/

These aren't reliable sources so I removed the sentence until we can find something more reliable. - JRheic (talk) 20:47, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
