[edit]It would be good to see a reference for the statement that the show was cancelled due to poor popularity of the 3rd & 4th series. Given the sporadic history of the show it is not immediately evident that it has been cancelled, and indeed I wonder if it might be more accurate to say "...no more series have been commissioned" (I hope I'm not splitting hairs here, it's just that cancellation implies that even more seasons were originally being planned, it would be nice to clarify this point.) (I may do a bit of research to try and answer this myself ) Samatarou 11:37, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- well I've been looking but I can't find any info on this at all! Samatarou 18:48, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Style
[edit]- As RTT was made in a Commonwealth country and broadcast primarily in Commonwealth countries, I think the article should use Commonwealth English. This is in line with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#National_varieties_of_English Almost all RTT websites that I have seen conform to this, e.g. using "series" rather than "season", and most English-speaking readers are likely to be from Commonwealth countries where the TV series aired.
- I have been regularising typography, e.g. ensuring use of italics for episode titles and bold for names of people and objects.

- Go ahead and fix it. There shouldn't be anyone objecting. — Val42 00:45, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- I am going to fix it up. All of the official DVD releases and the official web-site use series. 'Season' only seems to have crept in from American usage in the last two decades.Deonyi (talk) 12:15, 6 July 2019 (UTC)
Content
[edit]I think a fair amount of emphasis needs to be on the meta-level, e.g. how RTT was received, the cultural context, literary analysis etc; an encyclopaedia article should not just be a guide to a tv series with cast and episode lists and trivia - there are already many such sites. This is an area where many Wiki TV articles fall down, and I'm trying to go some way to addressing it for TV series that I have an attachment to. (Having said that, an episode list would not be out of place!) Samatarou 18:47, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
'Fantastic'
[edit]It seems rather heavy handed to add a reference to the main article simply to justify the use of an adjective, so instead I'll just note here that the term fantastic stories used in the opening para can if necessary be justified by this article which notes that Penguin describes him as "one of the world's foremost living tellers of fantastic tales" 19:33, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- Because the word 'fantastic' is much more often than not used to describe something as 'amazing', 'superbe' etc., it doesn't quite work here - it certainly seems like a point-of-view. For that reason, I really feel that your latest edit, to the word 'fantasy', works much better. TheIslander 20:10, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Ratings
I couldn't figure out how to do an article rating but I would rate this of medium importance overall (in the context of Wikipedia Australia). Round the Twist is of great importance in the context of English language Children's Television, as it has been broadcast in many countries and is generally perceived to be a programme made to a very high standard (especially the first two series), and one which pushed the boundaries in terms of acceptable content for a children's programme by use of inventiveness, humour, and fantasy plots. Spelling and grammar.
[edit]I changed a couple of "humor" to "humour", and also the "z" to "s" in visualize (think). Peter Tuffin (talk) 12:16, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
Meaning - who was it?
[edit]It seemed to me that the phrase "held regard for his talent" was a bit clunky, so I changed it. I trust it reads easier now. But in the process I wasn't sure if the "his" referred to Esben or Jennings. I hope I got it right. Peter Tuffin (talk) 12:23, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

[edit]I excised the Reviews section because it dropped into promotional territory. I think some of the material can be salvaged and put into a "Reception" section, but there is a lot of quoted material (which the entire section was made up of). I'll post it here if someone wants to rescue some of the quotes to be reworked into Reception.
Described as ‘superbly appealing’, ‘thoroughly subversive, as all the best children's stories are’, ‘eminently suitable for both children and adults’ and ‘inventive and contemporary’, Round the Twist has been hailed by children, and many adults, as the best program ever.
[1]“Round The Twist is a favourite of children and their parents in more than 70 countries around the world. The humour of the show is wildly surreal, inimitably Australian and universally appealing” Dr Patricia Edgar, Director of the ACTF and producer of the series.[2]
Series 1
“Round the Twist has been handsomely produced by the ACTF...the kids will love it and there's a fair chance you'll enjoy it yourself.” TV Week, Australia, 11/8/90[3]
“Bursting with colour, humour, and gratifyingly unsentimental warmth. Twist is distinctive...There is a pervasive and thoroughly engaging sense of wonder and delight about Round the Twist. Firmly rooted in the curiosity of childhood.” The Sunday Age, Melbourne, 19/8/90[3]
“It's rude, clever, cheeky, very funny. The scripts are delicious, performances keen, direction and editing crisp and economical- it looks like a series that was fun to make.” The Herald, Melbourne, 24/8/90[3]
“For another serve of delightful local children's TV, get the kids up early for Round the Twist. The kids will love it.” Green Guide, The Age, Melbourne, 22/8/90[3]
“If this superbly appealing series of, initially, 13 programs is indicative of the sort of entertainment that Australian kids can now expect on their screens, then last one in for a second childhood is a silly sausage.” The Guide, Sydney Morning Herald, 26/8/90[3]
“Round the Twist is genuinely funny and considerably better than much of the average so-called adult viewing.” 7 Days, The Sunday Herald, Melbourne, 2/9/90[3]
“It's funny, clever, innovative stuff put together by a talented team...Round the Twist is a touch of their magic.” The Sun Herald, Sydney, 2/9/90[3]
“The stories are thoroughly subversive, as all the best children's stories are. The most striking element in the series is its combination of earthiness and fantasy. Children love it but the series also enables us to enter (temporary guests) into that special world that only children know.” The Age, Melbourne, 9/9/90[3]
“The most entertaining locally produced series...takes place in a quaint lighthouse perched in the middle of a spectacular stretch of the Australian coastline. Ostensibly a kids’ show, ambushes adults and children alike.” The Sydney Morning Herald, 22/9/90[3]
“A corker of a series...Funny, decidedly offbeat, not a little scary in patches and with a bizarre but rather charming conclusion, Round the Twist was everything praiseworthy that I had been unofficially told it was.” The Daily Telegraph, Sydney, 31/10/90[3]
“The ACTF's Round the Twist was my favourite series for the year...it was a wonderful series, intelligent and full of fun and good humour.” Green Guide, The Age, Melbourne, 13/12/90[3]
“Round the Twist is a fabulous series for young people...essential viewing, and reading, for people who love a good story.” Criss Cross, Australia, February 1991[3]
Series 2
“The children's series that scored the highest score on the appreciation meters of Australia kids is undoubtedly Round The Twist.” The West Australian, Perth, 20/03/93[4]
“Pure twisted joy for all...a celebration of human imagination.” The Age, Melbourne, 19/03/93[4]
“It's the kids and their ability to create a believable magic all their own that gives this series its charm.” The Canberra Times, 15/03/93[4]
“It will be a true sourpuss who doesn't crack a smile.” Who Weekly Magazine, 22/03/93[4]
“...brilliant funny, clever...” Spectator, Hamilton Vic, 06/04/93[4]
“...funny and quirky story lines make for entertaining viewing.” The Herald-Sun, Melbourne, 19/03/93[4]
“...stories scripted for children but which will entertain the whole family.” The Sunday Tasmanian, Hobart, 14/03/93[4]
“Another important element in this series is the strong sense of place, of Australia as a paradise, where children enjoy a special world.” The Age, Melbourne, 20/03/93[4]
“A program of intense colour, wonderfully large performances and jokes that range from the terribly clever to the terribly pie-in-the-face.” The Sydney Morning Herald, 15/03/93[4]
“Next year's Logie for best kids’ show should go to the new series of Round The Twist...a brilliant series.” The Age, Melbourne, 25/03/93[4]
“This outstanding production deftly combines the prickly realities of domestic, social, and school life with marvelous flights of fancy...an oasis amid the desert of locally produced children's television.” The Sunday Age, Melbourne, 30/05/93[4]
“TV to be enjoyed by 8 to 16-year old's-and quite a few adults too, of course.” Sunday Examiner, Launceston, 28/03/93[4]
“that overriding element is, of course, that they are just so much fun! Definitely not to be missed!” Magpies, May 1993[4]
“...funny, sad, thought-provoking and it appeals to a broad level of intelligence.” Geelong Advertiser, 29/05/93 [4]
Series 3
“Children's TV doesn't often get as sophisticated as this, nor as naughty, though right always triumphs over wrong...You'll have to undergo a pregnancy test in the first episode and, if you are a parent, you may have your qualms. Don't worry about the children. They'll be fine.” Robin Oliver, Sydney morning Herald Guide[5]
“Filmed on one of Australia's most spectacular coastlines, the clever series explores the wonders of childhood and pushes the boundaries of imagination... Round The Twist is for the young at heart. And all would be hams!” Tony Johnston, Herald-Sun TV Extra[5]
“There are many reasons for the success of Round The Twist, not least its parentage. The Australian Children's Television Foundation has been the parent of great television. It has taken risks and it is precisely those risks that have been responsible for its best work...Round The Twist does not proclaim itself to be educational but it is underlaid with the strong educational value of lively narrative.” Dennis Pryor, The Age[5]
“And every so often something brilliant goes to air, thus affirming our choice to have one of the damned things (a television set) in our sitting rooms. Round The Twist is one such show...There are so much love and respect in this family-is it any wonder that young viewers want to be a part of it?... Welcome back Round The Twist...you're one hell of a good time.” Corrie Perkin, Sunday Age[5]
Series 4
“Children's TV doesn't come any better than this...If the first episode is any guide, writing, production, and acting standards are better than ever.” Herald Sun[5]
“one of Australian TV's most successful exports returns for a fourth series to enthrall kids of all ages. And if the first episode, appropriately titled Welcome Back, is a guide, it's even slicker and more fun-filled than ever.” The Guide[5]
“Round The twist continues to be one of the most popular children's programs screened on ABC TV. I am delighted that, for the first time, our ABC Kids audience can enjoy the unique stories from all four series-a great reason to ‘twist and shout!’” Deirdre Brennan, ABC Kids Programmer, April 2003[5]
“It is one of the few shows that manage to keep parents and children planted in front of the television at the same time.” The Age, Green Guide[5]—Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 19:38, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Series 1
[edit]was aired in Austria back in the 90s. I distinctly remember the spaghetti eating contest. Only some 20 years later I finally found out what show I had even been watching back then in my childhood much less that it was an Aussie show. I don't think season 2 aired in Austria back then. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:871:26:9A03:1DAF:F120:7AD2:174A (talk) 21:19, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
