Track routes around Plas Bennion[edit]

There's a lot of detail around Plas-yn-wern shown on OS maps such as [1] (circa 1921), but I don't have a source of anything authoritative. It's curious that Plas Bennion itself isn't marked despite having houses and a chapel... no pub, I suppose :-)

Does anybody have anything on (a) the history and route between Rhos and Rhostyllen, and (b) the line from Ruabon (Jenks's) that joined this line at or near Legacy? I think I remember my mother mentioning the halt and railmotor at Wynn Hall, how far did it actually run (i.e. did it terminate at Rhos or go all the way to Wrexham)? Two books I've found in my shelves with useful info, which I'll abstract when I get a chance:

  • North Wales Branch Line Album, C.C.Green, Ian Allen.
  • The Ellesmere and Llangollen Canal, Edward Wilson, Phillimore.

Also [2] and an alternative RCH map [3]. MarkMLl (talk) 17:08, 24 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also [4] which gives distances (miles/chains). Suggests that the delimiter between the Rhos and Pontcysyllte brances was between Rhos station and Brook Stret halt, also divides Legacy and Ponkey (Ponciau) branches. MarkMLl (talk) 11:35, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Photos etc.[edit]

For the record: couple of nice photos at http://spellerweb.net/rhindex/UKRH/GreatWestern/Narrowgauge/Rhos.html, no indication of license.

Also as most people have probably noticed there's a permanently-available photo of a level crossing claimed to be on the Rhos Branch on eBay from great_railway_stuff. Good to know there's a decent copy around, even if it's not usable here.

I dug through a whole lot of my negatives from way back over the holiday, but unfortunately could find nothing relevant. MarkMLl (talk) 20:09, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Video including useful Google Maps overlay[edit]

I don't know where he got it, but the producer of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7V8vwGsYZz0 has a map of all the lines in the area to a greater detail than I've seen elsewhere. MarkMLl (talk) 16:09, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
