Lute or zither?
[edit]Is it a lute or a zither, or something else? Badagnani (talk) 01:00, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
In organology it's classified as a "tube zither". D.R.W.
Difference between Rudra Veena and Vichitra Veena?
[edit]I have been looking up some instruments, and I noticed the image for Rudra Veena and Vichitra Veena is the same, yet only this article refers to the other. Is there a connection, was it a mistake, or what happened? --Gchick (talk) 16:23, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
The rudra veena and vichitra veena are similar in appearance, but are more than enough distinct from one another to be distinguished at a glance. If the pictures you saw truly were identical, then one or the other was mislabelled. The vichitra veena has a flattened neck, similar to that of a sitar or surbahar, while the rudra veena has a cylindrical neck, a hollow tube actually. The vichitra veena has a small rudimentary soundboard and soundbox connected to the neck, in addition to the two gourds, while the rudra veena has none, with its bridge sitting directly upon the tubular neck close to one of its ends. The rudra veena has frets, but the vichitra veena has none. There is a picture of the vichitra veena at http://www.buckinghammusic.com/veena/images/vitchveena.jpg for comparison. -- David Russell Watson — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.70.121.90 (talk) 02:02, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
Should the Veena (instrument) and Rudra veena articles be merged? Checkingfax (talk) 23:43, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
