Dates[edit]

Me again - I've just found more info on http://www.thefullwiki.org/SM_UC-42

UC-42 was lost on 10 September 1917 after one of her own mines exploded, blowing off her stern and killing all 27 crew. The U-boat's loss was not known by the British until 31 October when oil was seen. Divers reached UC-42, recovering items and papers and bringing them to Dunmore East, in Waterford, Ireland. The hatches were open, suggesting that the crew tried to escape; one body was recovered. Walter Richter was initially buried at Drumcannon, Waterford, but now lies in Glencree German war cemetery.

Clarified the above - Walter Richter was from UC-44, sunk off Waterford on 4.8.17.
