I am somewhat puzzled about the figures for a number of smaller islands in the table. Does the table refer to an administrative district or something of that kind? Cheers, Kosebamse 17:05 25 May 2003 (UTC)

The problem with this article is that it confounds the island of Saaremaa, and the county of Saaremaa, the former being a part of the latter. Andres 11:30, 22 Aug 2003 (UTC)
The list of counties in the article Estonia links to this article. Andres 11:34, 22 Aug 2003 (UTC)
The article (and possibly the picture) should be changed to only refer to the island, and the parts about the county should be moved to Saare County. Also, anything that links to Saaremaa with the meaning of the county, should be changed to link to Saare County. PeepP 12:12, July 11, 2005 (UTC)

The article Hiiumaa talks about an older Finnish name Yösalo = night island, which is a different ethymology than currently described here. It would be nice to see references to literature conserning the name ethymology. --LA2 (talk) 13:34, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Soviet graves and memorial pictures[edit]

There is no reason to remove these images. They are part of the island's history and culture. Including them is making NO positive statement about the Soviet Union and its brutal occupation of Estonia and other countries. Please leave them in place. Can someone add the IPA pronunciation for the name of this place? RJFJR (talk) 22:58, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

I would suggest to verify the area. The German Wiki-project has done that and concluded that the area is 2672 km². In List of islands of Estonia it is 2671 km². -- Bk1 168 (talk) 19:49, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Does anyone have photos of Angla or Piret & Toll?

As they are among the iconic representations of the island (along with the Bishop's Castle etc) I think they deserve a mention in the article! Barrybounce (talk) 19:53, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Some pictures of Angla windmills you can find here. Flying Saucer (talk) 01:09, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi, these figures - 10+16,195+16=42,195 km - don't seem to add up. Can someone familiar with the issue look into it? Muleiolenimi (talk) 11:24, 7 March 2014 (UTC)
