References

[edit]

You can go to www.shaggyflores.com for references to this article. Article was posted by the actual person who the article is about. Please remove from deletion status as the information provided is correct. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.160.135.249 (talkcontribs)

What's needed are references to reliable sources that are independent of the subject. Also, autobiographies are strongly disouraged. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a provider of free web space. --Finngall talk 21:40, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Outside independent references are provided at the bottom of the page. This article is in compliance with existing Wiki articles on Slam or Nuyorican poets. Material provide aside from the short bio is material that was created outside of the source by independent contributors. Please remove from deletion status as the information provided is correct and not web advertising. In addition, how is this page any different from Caridad de la Luz and Tego Calderon pages which are posted on Wikipedia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.160.135.249 (talkcontribs)

Early attempts to delete the first comment above were accidental when I went to edit my original statement. I am new to wikipedia and I'm sorry for not following the protocol. However, this still doesn't change the fact that outside references, as stated above by you, have been provided for this posting therefore fulfilling your earlier request for deletion. Please remove your deletion comment as wikipedia requirements have been fulfilled. In addition, you never answered the question on how this page is different from existing pages on the subject? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.160.135.249 (talk) 22:44, 10 September 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.160.135.249 (talk)

This page will need a lot of work, but I'm glad to see it here! futurebird 15:05, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've cleaned up the images a bit--I replaced the caricature in the infobox with a proper photo, deleted the low-res Flickr image, and moved the rest to the gallery. There's more cleanup to be done, but I'll leave it alone from here on. Take care. --Finngall talk 19:28, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Afro-Puerto Rican

[edit]

I have been cleaning up various pages relating to Afro-Puerto Ricans. First off, the fact that this gentleman has an article on Wikipedia dedicated to him (by himself, apparently) is questionable. He is not that noteworthy. Next, he is not Afro-Puerto Rican. A bit of black ancestry, as is common in the Carribbean, does not make one Afro-Puerto Rican. The racist "one-drop rule" is just that, racism. If we follow that line of thinking, the majority of Puerto Rico would be simply black, which is an outrageous assertion. It is great that you are in touch with your black ancestor, but ignoring the rest of your ancestry is a bit childish and disingenuous. Afro-Puerto Ricans are blacks from Puerto Rico. Flores is not black, so I am deleting this reference. --Noopinonada (talk) 04:18, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion

[edit]

The author of this page, upon examination of the discussion page, is Shaggy Flores himself. While Shaggy Flores may have other websites (including his own site) referring to his poetry or his minor published works, this article in Wikipedia obviously, for all intents and purposes, seves only as a beacon to advertise Shaggy Flores. For reference, see the relevant sections where Flores discusses that he is pursuing a masters and what not. It reads like an autobiography, it reeks of self-advertisement, and the subject of the article is quite low on the notoriety/noteworthy scale. Mr. Flores, Wikipedia is not an avenue for self-adulation. I've visited your website and it does the trick as far as advertising you. I am sticking with my proposal for deletion. Hopefully you will realize that this is an encyclopedia and not a forum for you to self-aggrandize. Furthermore, you ridiculous inclusion of yourself as "Afro-Puerto Rican" only furthers suspicion that you have some sort of agenda here. I will push (fairly, unless you feel unable to stoop down to discuss yourself here) for deletion of this page.--Noopinonada (talk) 02:15, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
