State Updates

[edit]

Added 6 railroads to the South Carolina section (Carolina Southern Railroad, Hampton and Branchville Railroad, Lancaster and Chester Railroad, Pee Dee River Railway, Pickens Railway, and South Carolina Central Railroad). JerseyMutt (talk) 18:14, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page merger

[edit]

The old page "Short-line railroad" was merged into this page on the grounds that sources always use the term "shortline" as one word and never with a dash. For example, in the "Shortline Railway Guide" these railroads are always referred to as a single word. Even in other publications the word "shortline" is the most commonly used term.--FrankieG123 (talk) 16:50, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed split

The result of this discussion was to split the list into its own article. As no objections have been raised in over a month, I am closing this and performing the split. Trainsandotherthings (talk) 23:25, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This article is currently a combination of a list of shortline railroads in the U.S. by state, and an article on what a shortline railroad is. It should be split, with the railroad list moved to a new list-class article. The list only including U.S. railroads is also a failure to achieve a global viewpoint of the topic, so should be moved from this article for that reason as well.
