Numbers!!!

[edit]

As usual with nearly all the Wikipedia articles on battles between the Ottomans and the West, the numbers given for the Ottoman army here are ridiculous. It's really waste of breath but to point out just one problem, in 1717, there were not even 80.000 janissaries all over the Ottoman Empire, let alone in the Ottoman relief army. The Ottoman Empire was in no condition to muster and feed such a large number of men. The author can check out Virginia Aksan's Ottoman Wars, 1700-1870_ An Empire Besieged among others if s/he really wants to present a better picture. In the past, such a mistake could be justifiable as there were no reliable studies on the Ottoman military. But not for today as there are solid works by reliable historians such Gabor Agoston, Virginia Aksan, Rhoads Murphey on the Ottoman military in English.
