Peirce was not only an important 18th century business man, he was for a number of years a member of the Boston Board of Aldermen. Peirce was Chairman of the City of Boston Board of Aldermen during the Civil war, and as such the second highest public official in the city, as such he was an important municipal figure during that time period.

Peirce also founded a important early American grocery business that existed for over 100 years, his business model changed the way groceries were marketed, he as a pioneer in the pure food movement, something we take for granted today was not always a primary focus of grocers.

He is entitled to a biography as someone who succeeded in political and business channels.
