Requested move
[edit]As it stands, the name of this article is POV. There is another Simeon in the "Bible" - Simeon the Righteous. Maybe this should become Simeon (Tanakh) or Simeon (Hebrew Bible). StAnselm (talk) 06:32, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
- And I've just noticed that his brother's article is at Joseph (Hebrew Bible), so Simeon (Hebrew Bible) makes the most sense. StAnselm (talk) 07:08, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose What POV is being pressed by Simeon (Bible)? This Simeon is indeed the most commonly mentioned Simeon, even if we don't count references only the tribe. Simeon the Righteous occurs in one passage of one chapter of Luke. If we must move, make it Simeon (patriarch). Septentrionalis PMAnderson 21:37, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- Comment. I thought about Simeon (patriarch), but then I wondered whether he is ever called a patriarch. He is obviously a minor character compared to Judah and Joseph - the raw number of mentions don't mean all that much. The POV expressed is that the Tanakh is being elevated above the New Testament. StAnselm (talk) 21:59, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- All twelve of the sons of Jacob are; see Testament of the Twelve Patriarchs. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 17:04, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
- But are they called this in the Tanakh? Anyway, what is wrong with Simeon (Hebrew Bible)? StAnselm (talk) 01:59, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- What's the Hebrew for Patriarch? And what difference does it make? This is not the Hebrew Wikipedia, which calls this page the undabbed שמעון .

- Suggestion: Simeon (Book of Genesis)? I have not read the Bible, so do not know if he is in more chapters than just Genesis. Tigeron (talk) 20:10, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Move to Simeon (Hebrew Bible) per sensible idea by StAnselm. The other Simeon is only in one place, but is huge liturgically -- worldwide, millions of Anglicans recite his song every single evening around the world -- the Nunc dimittis. Bearian (talk) 23:50, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Merge of Simeon in rabbinic literature
[edit]- Propose to merge the above here. I believe they are the same person (but may be mistaken). That article appears to have been lifted from the Jewish Encyclopedia. That's not a copyright issue but it means it is not in a good shape for this 21st century encyclopedia. Itsmejudith (talk) 16:25, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
Dating system
[edit]Dating within this article is inconsistent. For reasons of scholarship and neutrality, BCE should likely be adopted throughout. (BibleScholar (talk) 13:55, 20 March 2018 (UTC))
