Since I travelled on a vehicle carried on the St Gotthard railway in 1958, the claim on this page that the car-carrying service started in 1959 must be incorrect. 92.235.170.18 (talk) 14:39, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On the 1905 page, April 2, 1905 is shown as the date the Simplon Tunnel was officially opened, but this article shows that a different date in 1906. I guess I'll have to check the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica site. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jtyroler (talkcontribs) 17:32, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spiral Tunnel?[edit]

I have looked on Google Maps and Google Earth for the 'Spiral Tunnel' west of Varzo, and I cannot find it. The diagram suggests that part of it is not in tunnel, but even that part of it is not visible. The alignment of the track (when viewed from above) suggests that there is no spiral at all. Does this Spiral Tunnel actually exist, ot is it in the wrong place on the diagram?

Why on earth does the tunnel bare a French spelling?[edit]

It is nowhere near France nor is the tunnel near the Romandy bit of Wallis. Simplon tunnel is fulling bounded by German and Italian toponyms so. So why on Earth the needless ‘French spelling’ “Simplon”? 2A00:23C7:2B13:9001:45F5:390D:8BF4:1039 (talk) 09:43, 27 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
